Overview

This document serves as the user manual for the Zanussi ZXAE82FR refrigerator, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, safe operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The manual emphasizes user safety and proper handling to ensure the appliance's longevity and efficient performance.

Function Description

The Zanussi ZXAE82FR is a refrigerator designed for household and similar applications, including farmhouses, staff kitchen areas in shops and offices, and residential environments like hotels and bed and breakfasts. Its primary function is to store fresh food at controlled temperatures, ensuring its preservation and preventing spoilage. The appliance is equipped with a refrigeration circuit that uses isobutane (R600a), a natural gas known for its environmental compatibility. It features a fresh food compartment, which is the main storage area for perishable items. The refrigerator is designed for built-in installation, meaning it is integrated into kitchen cabinetry.

Usage Features

The refrigerator offers several features to enhance its usability and food storage capabilities:

  • Temperature Regulation: The appliance's internal temperature is automatically regulated, but users can adjust it using a temperature regulator. Turning the regulator clockwise lowers the temperature, while turning it counter-clockwise raises it. A medium setting is generally recommended for optimal food preservation. The ideal temperature setting depends on factors such as room temperature, frequency of door opening, quantity of food stored, and the appliance's location.
  • Movable Shelves: The interior walls of the refrigerator are fitted with runners, allowing users to adjust the height of the shelves as needed. This flexibility accommodates food packages of various sizes, optimizing storage space.
  • Vegetable Drawer: A dedicated drawer is located at the bottom of the appliance for storing fruits and vegetables. This drawer is designed to maintain optimal conditions for these items, helping to keep them fresh longer. It is important not to move the glass shelf above this drawer to ensure proper air circulation.
  • Food Storage Guidelines: The manual provides specific recommendations for storing different types of food. Meat should be wrapped in suitable packaging and stored on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer for a maximum of 1-2 days. Fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly cleaned and placed in the vegetable drawer. Certain exotic fruits (like bananas, mangos, papayas) and vegetables (like tomatoes, potatoes, onions, garlic) are not recommended for refrigerator storage. Butter and cheese should be stored in airtight containers or wrapped in aluminum foil/polythene bags to minimize air exposure. Bottles should be capped and placed on the door bottle shelf or bottle rack.
  • Energy Saving Tips: To maximize energy efficiency, users are advised to ensure drawers are in the bottom part and shelves are evenly distributed. Frequent or prolonged door opening should be avoided. Setting the temperature too low unnecessarily can increase energy consumption. In high ambient temperatures, if the appliance is fully loaded and set to a low temperature, continuous compressor operation might lead to frost formation. In such cases, adjusting the temperature control to a higher setting can facilitate automatic defrosting and save energy. Proper ventilation around the appliance is also crucial.
  • Door Shelves: The door shelves can be repositioned to accommodate different package sizes. They can be pulled up until they come free and then re-positioned as required.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the appliance's performance and hygiene:

  • Cleaning the Interior: Before initial use, and periodically thereafter, the interior and all internal accessories should be washed with lukewarm water and a neutral soap. Abrasive powders, chlorine, or oil-based cleaners should be avoided as they can damage the finish. The accessories and parts are not suitable for dishwasher cleaning.
  • Periodic Cleaning: The appliance should be cleaned regularly. This includes cleaning the inside and accessories, checking and wiping door seals to ensure they are free from debris, and rinsing and drying thoroughly.
  • Defrosting the Refrigerator: Frost is automatically eliminated from the refrigerator compartment's evaporator during normal use. The defrost water drains into a trough and then evaporates from a special container at the back of the appliance, over the motor compressor. It is important to periodically clean the defrost water drain hole, located under the salad drawers, to prevent water overflow and dripping onto food. A tube cleaner is provided for this purpose.
  • Cleaning Air Channels: The ventilation grid and air deflector should be cleaned. This involves removing the plinth and ventilation grid, then carefully pulling out the air deflector to check for any remaining defrost water. The lower part of the appliance can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Period of Non-Operation: If the appliance will not be used for an extended period, it should be disconnected from the electricity supply, all food removed, and the appliance and accessories cleaned. The door should be left open to prevent unpleasant smells and mold development.
  • Replacing the Lamp: The appliance is equipped with a long-life LED interior light. If the lamp needs replacement, users must disconnect the plug from the mains socket. A screwdriver is used to remove the screw from the lamp cover, which then detaches in the direction of the arrows. The bulb should be replaced with an E14 base LED bulb with identical characteristics and maximum power as indicated on the lamp unit. After replacement, the lamp cover is reassembled, the screw tightened, and the plug reconnected.
  • Closing the Door: To ensure proper door closure, the door gaskets should be cleaned. If necessary, the door can be adjusted according to installation instructions. Defective door gaskets should be replaced by contacting an Authorized Service Centre.
