Setup for Windows OS
This section assists you in setting up and operating your printer for the first time.
Windows Operating Systems Printer Setup (Overview)
For supported Windows Operating systems (most common) with a Local (cabled) connection:
• ‘Run’ the Zebra Setup Utilities from the User’s CD or from the Zebra Web site.
• Click on ‘Install New Printer’ and run the install wizard. Select ‘Install Printer’ and select the ZD420c from
the list of ZDesigner printers.
• Select the port (USB or Serial) that you connected to the PC. One of these interfaces are also used by
the Zebra Setup Utility’s Wizard to assist installation of networked and Bluetooth Classic (4.0).
• Turn the printer ON and configure printer communications for your interface type.
• Use the Windows driver to print a ‘Test Print’ to verify operation with Windows.

Printer Drivers
Install the Zebra Setup Utilities (ZSU) before applying power to the printer connected to the
PC (running a Zebra driver supported Windows operating system). The utility installs the Zebra
Windows drivers first. The ZSU installation wizard will then prompt you to apply the printer power.
Continue to follow the instructions to complete your printer installation.
The Zebra Setup Utility is designed to assist you with installing these interfaces. The
cabling and unique parameters for each of these physical printer communication interfaces is
discussed in the following pages to assist you with making configuration setup choices prior to
and immediately following applying power. The Zebra Setup Utilities configuration wizards will
instruct you to turn the printer’s power on at the appropriate time to complete the installation of
your printer.
