3.0 INSTALLATION
;
Installation of the Rope Grab must be performed or supervised by a Competent Person.
3.1 PLANNING: Plan your Fall Protection system prior to installation of the Rope Grab. Account for all factors that may aect
your safety before, during, and after a fall. Consider all requirements, limitations and specications dened in Section 2
and Table 1.
3.2 INSTALLING THE ROPE GRAB: The Rope Grab may be installed onto vertical lifelines meeting the requirements listed
in Table 1. Figure 9 illustrates installation of the Rope Grab. To install the Rope Grab:
1. Press the Opening Lever (A) down into the open position.
2. Open the Rope Grab (A) by holding down the Opening Lever and pressing in on the Release Button.
3. Place the Rope Grab (A) around the vertical lifeline. Raise the Locking Cam (B) until the Rope Grab is secured around
the vertical lifeline (C).
4. Close the Rope Grab around the vertical lifeline. Raise the Opening Lever (A) to the locked position.
3.3 PARKING FEATURE: The parking feature of the Rope Grab may be activated by operation of the Auto-Locking Lever.
See Figure 10 for reference. To deactivate the parking feature, place the Auto-Locking Lever in the upright position (A). To
activate the parking feature, place the Auto-Locking Lever in the downwards position (B).
4.0 USE
4.1 BEFORE EACH USE: Verify that your work area and Fall Protection system meet all criteria dened in these instructions.
Verify that a formal Rescue Plan is in place. Inspect the product per the ‘User’ inspection points dened in the “Inspection
and Maintenance Log. If inspection reveals an unsafe or defective condition, or if there is any doubt about its condition
for safe use, remove the product from service immediately. Clearly tag the product “DO NOT USE”. See Section 5 for more
information.
4.2 SYSTEM APPLICATIONS: The Rope Grab is used with a Full Body Harness and Energy-Absorbing Lanyard. Connect
the integral Energy-Absorbing Lanyard between the anchor eye of the Rope Grab and the dorsal D-Ring of the Harness
as described in the manufacturer instructions of the Lanyard. See Figure 8 for system applications of the Rope Grab. The
Rope Grab may be used as part of a Fall Arrest (8.1) or Fall Restraint (8.2) system.

5.0 INSPECTION

After equipment has been removed from service, it may not be returned to service until a Competent Person conrms in
writing that it is acceptable to do so.
5.1 INSPECTION FREQUENCY: The product shall be inspected before each use by the user and, additionally, by a
Competent Person other than the user at intervals of no longer than one year. A higher frequency of equipment use
and harsher conditions may require increasing the frequency of Competent Person inspections. The frequency of these
inspections should be determined by the Competent Person per the specic conditions of the worksite.
5.2 INSPECTION PROCEDURES: Inspect this product per the procedures listed in the “Inspection and Maintenance Log”.
Documentation of each inspection should be maintained by the owner of this equipment. An inspection and maintenance
log should be placed near the product or be otherwise easily accessible to users. It is recommended that the product is
marked with the date of next or last inspection.
5.3 DEFECTS: If the product cannot be returned to service because of an existing defect or unsafe condition, then the
system must be either destroyed or sent to 3M or a 3M-authorized service center for repair.
5.4 PRODUCT LIFE: The functional life of your of the product is determined by work conditions and maintenance. As long as
the product passes inspection criteria, it may remain in service.
6.0 MAINTENANCE, SERVICING, STORAGE

Equipment that is in need of maintenance or scheduled for maintenance should be tagged “DO NOT USE”. These
equipment tags should not be removed until maintenance is performed.
