PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Figure 1 illustrates the 3M™ Protecta
®
Cobra Rope Grab. The Rope Grab is designed to attach to a vertical lifeline to provide an
anchorage connection point for the user. An integral Energy-Absorbing Lanyard is attached to the Rope Grab for connection of
the user. The Rope Grab may used for Fall Arrest or Restraint applications.
Figure 2 illustrates components of the Rope Grab. See Table 1 for Component Specications.
The Attachment Eye (A) enables connection of an Energy-Absorbing Lanyard to the Rope Grab. The Locking Cam (B) holds the
Attachment Eye and secures the Rope Grab to the vertical lifeline. The Lifeline Channel (C) holds the Rope Grab around the
vertical lifeline during use. The Hinge (D) enables the Rope Grab to swing open and closed. The Auto-Locking Lever (E) may
be adjusted to enable or disable the parking feature of the Rope Grab. The Locking Arm Spring (F) may be pushed inwards to
raise the Locking Cam. The Lock Pin (G) secures the Locking Cam in place. The Opening Lever (H) locks and unlocks the Lifeline
Channel in coordination with the Release Button (I). The integral Energy-Absorbing Lanyard is composed of the Webbing (J), the
Energy Absorber (K), and a Snap Hook (L) for connecting the user.
Table 1 Specications
System Specications:
Capacity: One person with a combined weight (including clothing, tools, etc.) of no more than 115 kg (254 lb.).
Anchorage: The required Anchorage Strength depends on the application:
Fall Arrest: Anchorages selected for Fall Arrest systems shall have a strength capable of
sustaining static loads applied in the directions permitted by the system of at least:
1. 5,000 lbf (22.2 kN) for non-certified anchorages, or
2. Two times the maximum arresting force for certified anchorages.
When more than one Fall Arrest system is attached to an anchorage, the strengths set forth in
(1) and (2) above shall be multiplied by the number of systems attached to the anchorage.
Restraint: Anchorages selected for Restraint systems shall have a strength capable of sustaining
static loads applied in the directions permitted by the system of at least:
1. 1,000 lbf (4.5 kN) for non-certified anchorages, or
2. Two times the forseeable force for certified anchorages.
When more than one Restraint system is attached to an anchorage, the strengths set forth in (1)
and (2) above shall be multiplied by the number of systems attached to the anchorage.
;
Certied anchorages must be certied by a Qualied Person as meeting the criteria for a
certied anchorage as specied in these instructions.
Free Fall: Free Fall requirements vary with the system application:
Fall Arrest: Maximum Free Fall for the system must be limited to 6.0 ft. (1.8 m).
Restraint: The system must be rigged so that no vertical free fall is possible.
Maximum
Arresting Force:
Use of the Rope Grab must limit the Maximum Arresting Force to 8 kN (1,800 lbf).
Lanyard: The Rope Grab must be used with the integral Energy-Absorbing Lanyard. Use with any other Lanyard
or connecting subsystem is not approved.
Lifeline:
The Rope Grab must be used with a rope lifeline that is 16 mm (5/8 in.) in diameter. The rope lifeline
must have a minimum breaking strength of 22.2 kN (5,000 lbf).
The Rope Grab is compatible with the following 3M Vertical Lifelines:
ALL422-xxx Model Lifelines (9508057 rope)
SSR100-xxx Model Lifelines (9599720 rope)
Service
Temperature:
