How to fix A.O. Smith Water Heater with no hot water?

  If your A.O. Smith Water Heater isn't producing hot water, there are several potential causes. First, check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker and restore power to the unit. It's also possible the unit is in Vacation mode; if so, press the Mode/Enter button to return to your desired operating mode. Another cause may be ECO open, in this case you should reset the high temperature limit switch. If the hot water usage exceeds the heater's capability, consider changing the mode or modifying your usage patterns. Finally, check the hot water side of your home's plumbing system for leaks. For non-functioning upper temperature sensor contact a qualified person for service. Check hot water at other faucets for faulty thermostatic mixing valve.

Alternatively, the heating element may be grounded or shorted, requiring a replacement of the heating element. Check hot water at other faucets for faulty thermostatic mixing valve.

  If you notice a drip from the Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve on your A.O. Smith Water Heater, it could be due to excessive water pressure. Check the water supply inlet pressure; if it's higher than 80 PSIG, install a pressure reducing valve to bring it down to the recommended 50-60 PSIG. Also, the Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve might be non-functioning, in that case replace the valve.
