Why is there no hot water from my A.O. Smith Water Heater?
    • R
      Robert SolisJul 31, 2025
Several factors could cause a lack of hot water. First, check if the water heater has power by looking at the power button. If it's not lit, check for a blown fuse or tripped breaker and restore power, then press the power button. If the power button is red, press it to turn the unit on (it should turn green). Also, verify if the unit is in Vacation mode and, if so, press the Vacation Mode button to exit. Another possible cause is an open high temperature limit switch, which may require a reset. If your hot water usage exceeds the heater's capacity in the current mode, consider changing the mode or modifying your usage patterns. Finally, a non-functioning upper temperature sensor could be the culprit, requiring professional service.

How to fix insufficient hot water from my A.O. Smith Water Heater?
    • B
      badamsAug 5, 2025
Insufficient hot water can arise from several factors. Start by checking if the temperature set-point is too low and increase it if needed. A dirty air filter can also hinder performance, so clean it. If your hot water usage exceeds the heater's capacity in the current mode, consider changing to a different mode or adjusting your usage patterns. Make sure the water connections aren't reversed, ensuring the cold connection is at the bottom and the hot connection is at the top. Insulate any exposed piping to prevent heat loss. Repair any hot water leaks. If the heating element is non-functioning, professional service is needed. Lastly, sediment or scale build-up in the tank can be a factor; drain and flush the tank, and consider water conditioning to minimize future build-up.

Why is my A.O. Smith Voltex Water Heater's temperature & pressure relief valve dripping?
    • C
      Christina LoveAug 12, 2025
A dripping temperature and pressure relief valve can be due to a few reasons. First, check the water supply inlet pressure; if it exceeds 80 PSIG, install a pressure reducing valve to bring it down to the recommended 50-60 PSIG. Another potential cause involves the thermal expansion. Also, the Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve may be non-functioning and needs replacing.

    • A
      Aaron ReeseAug 17, 2025

What to do if my A.O. Smith Water Heater has high operation costs?
    • B
      Billy SmithAug 25, 2025
High operating costs can stem from several issues. A primary cause could be a temperature set-point that is too high; consider decreasing it. A dirty air filter can also contribute, so ensure you clean it. If the water heater is in Electric mode, switching to Efficiency or Hybrid mode can reduce energy costs. Incorrect water connections, with cold and hot reversed, can also lead to higher costs; ensure the cold connection is at the bottom and the hot connection at the top. Heat loss through exposed pipes should be addressed by insulating them. Repair any hot water leaks at faucets or piping. Lastly, sediment or scale build-up in the tank can increase costs; drain and flush the tank, and consider water conditioning to minimize future build-up.
