Do you have a question about the ABB ICOS GLA151 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The ABB ICOS GLA151 Series QC Portable Analyzers are designed to measure gas concentrations in parts per billion (ppb) and parts per million (ppm) using Off-Axis Integrated-Cavity Output Spectroscopy (Off-Axis ICOS) technology. This advanced laser absorption spectroscopy method utilizes a high-finesse optical cavity as an absorption cell, allowing laser photons to make thousands of passes before leaving the cell. This significantly enhances the effective optical path length, enabling highly precise measurements without the need for external calibration. The analyzer is a Class 1 laser instrument when the case cover is closed and locked, ensuring operator safety during normal operation.

Technical Specifications:

  • Ambient Humidity: <99% relative humidity, non-condensing.
  • Operating Temperature: 5 - 45°C.
  • Maximum Altitude: 6,000 feet.
  • Power Requirements:
    • 60 Watts (typical) – 24-30 VDC (battery power).
    • 66 Watts (typical) – 15-230 VAC, 50/60hz (AC adaptor).
    • 120 Watts maximum.
  • Fuse Ratings: 32 VAC, 10 Amps, fast-blow fuse.
  • External Dimensions: 18.5” W x 14” D x 7” H.
  • Weight: 15 kg.
  • Cell Volume: 345 cc cavity, 10 cc tubing, total volume = 355 cc.
  • Laser Classification: Class IIIb when exposed (housing open).
  • Certifications: 2004/108/EU (EMC), EN61326-1, Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations, chapter 1, sub-chapter J.

Usage Features:

The analyzer features a user-friendly interface with several display formats and configuration options:

  • Main Panel: Displays operational status (Green, Yellow, Red) and measurement data.
  • Numeric Display: The default display, showing numeric readouts of gas concentrations.
  • Alarm Status Display: Provides a detailed, color-coded overview of the analyzer's operational status, indicating if the analyzer is functioning properly, if data may be unreliable, or if maintenance is required.
  • Spectrum Display: Shows raw and fitted spectral scans, allowing users to visualize absorption features and signal analysis.
  • TimeChart Display: Presents gas concentration over time, including a 10-point running average. Users can toggle between available gases and adjust the number of significant figures.
  • Rate Control: Allows adjustment of the data acquisition rate (1 to 100 seconds) for logging and plotting, enabling users to optimize measurement precision.
  • File Transfer Menu: Facilitates easy transfer of data files from the internal hard drive to USB storage devices. Data files are stored in text (ASCII) format with labeled columns for time stamp, gas concentration, cell pressure, cell temperature, ambient temperature, and ring-down time. Files are organized into daily and archive directories.
  • Setup Menu: Provides access to advanced configurations and services, including:
    • Time/Files Tab: Adjusts time zone, sets the clock, configures data file format, and adjusts serial configuration.
    • Calibration Tab: Guides users through a calibration procedure using a local gas standard, allowing for periodic referencing to ensure measurement accuracy.
    • Laser Adjust Tab: Enables manual adjustment of the laser's wavelength to compensate for drift or operation outside recommended temperature ranges.
    • MIU Tab (Optional): Configures the Multi-Port Inlet Unit (MIU-8 or MIU-16) for automated sampling of multiple unknown and reference gases.
    • Analog Output Tab: Specifies conversion between gas concentration and analog output voltage (0-5 VDC) with 16-bit resolution.
    • Service Tab: Monitored by ABB-trained field service engineers, this tab allows for resetting mirror ring-down time, laser power, and maintenance counters, and provides remote access via TeamViewer for service needs.
  • Data Interface Connection Ports:
    • USB Ports: For data transfer to USB memory devices or connecting a USB keyboard and mouse.
    • Ethernet Port: Connects to a local area network (LAN) for accessing the data directory from an external computer.
    • Serial Port (9 pin D-sub): For real-time digital measurement output.
    • Video Port (15 pin D-sub): Connects an external monitor.
    • Analog Out Port: Provides a DC voltage proportional to measured gas concentration.
    • MIU Port (25-pin data port): For connecting to an optional Multiport Inlet Unit.
  • Gas Inlet/Outlet Connections:
    • INLET Port (¼” push-connect): For connecting the gas to be measured, with an external in-line filter provided.
    • WASTE Port (¼” push-connect): For routing exhaust gas to a ventilation system or expelling non-hazardous gas into room air.
    • Acceptable inlet gas pressure range is 0 to 10 psig.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Operation Checklist: Includes verifying spectrum correctness, logging transmitted intensity to detect dirty mirrors, and logging analyzer pressure to identify flow system obstructions or leaks.
  • Mirror Ring-Down Time and Maintenance: The analyzer continuously monitors mirror reflectivity. A significant reduction (e.g., >20%) in ring-down time indicates reduced measurement precision and necessitates mirror cleaning. Mirror cleaning kits are available from ABB-LGR.
  • Fuse Replacement: Instructions are provided for safely replacing the fast-blow fuse if it blows.
  • Mirror Cleaning Procedure: Detailed steps for removing, cleaning (using drag wiping with acetone and methanol), and reassembling the mirrors, including required tools and materials.
  • Cybersecurity: Users are responsible for ensuring a secure network connection and implementing measures like firewalls and authentication to protect against security breaches.
  • Customer Support: ABB-LGR provides worldwide product support via email and telephone for warranty and non-warranty issues.
