Overview

The provided manual describes the ACCESS Vanish roll-up cover, a tonneau cover designed for pickup truck beds. Manufactured by ACI, it emphasizes superior quality materials and craftsmanship, promising years of service and enjoyment with proper care.

Function Description:

The ACCESS Vanish roll-up cover is a retractable truck bed cover that provides security and protection for cargo in the truck bed. It consists of a vinyl cover that can be rolled up towards the cab to allow full access to the bed, or unrolled and secured over the bed to protect contents from weather and theft. The cover features a tension adjustment system to maintain a tight, drum-like surface, and a latching mechanism at the tailgate for quick opening and closing. Optional manual slide locks offer additional security.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Components:
    • 1 driver side rail
    • 1 passenger side rail
    • 6 clamps for rail attachment
    • 1 left and 1 right tension adjuster (EZ-Dial) with nuts & bolts
    • 1 pre-rolled up cover (vinyl fabric with front and rear bars, support bows)
    • Quick release storage straps (2 per cover)
    • 3/8" x 1/4" bolt & washer (2 per cover) for tension adjusters
    • 3/8" x 3/4" bolt & nut (2 per cover) for rail clamps
  • Tools Needed for Installation:
    • 1 - 1/2" wrench (for rail clamps)
    • 2 - 9/16" wrenches (for tension adjuster bolts)
    • 1 - Tape measure or ruler
    • Protective eyewear
    • 1 - Spring clamp (optional, for holding rails during clamping)
    • 1/8" Allen wrench (for manual slide lock adjustment)
  • Compatibility: Designed for pickup truck beds. Can be installed with under-the-rail drop-in bed liners with minimal trimming. Requires considerable trim cutting for over-the-rail drop-in bed liners.
  • Security: While it provides protection, the manual explicitly states it "does not prevent theft of contents in truck box."

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • Side Rails: Align weatherstrip edge of side rail against the inside lip of the box, pushing forward until it stops against the front of the box. The nylon strike end goes to the rear. Rails are secured with 6 clamps (3 per side), placed at the front, midway, and rear of the box. Clamps can be adjusted up or down to ensure the rail is level with the top of the pickup box. Some installs may require drilling/bolting (refer to extra insert instructions).
    • Tension Adjusters: The EZ-Dial Tension Adjusters (marked L for left, R for right) are assembled to the front bar of the cover. They are initially left loose and then tightened after the cover is mounted.
    • Cover Mounting: The pre-rolled cover is placed on the rails at the front of the box (behind the cab) with the front bar facing up. The cover bar is rolled onto the front of the rails, and the vinyl flap is tucked under. The bar is pushed forward until it sits flat and overhangs the rails. The tension adjusters slide over to engage under the side rails, and bolts are inserted and tightened. The front bar must be centered between the two side rails.
  • Operation:
    • Closing: Unroll the cover and place the rear bar into strikes on the side rails. Press down on the bar with 20-30 pounds of pressure to close.
    • Tailgate Fit: The tailgate should fit snugly under the cover bar. If it rubs, raise the rails by loosening rear clamps and adjusting up. If there's too much gap, lower the rails.
    • Tension Adjustment: The cover fabric should sound "drum-like" when tapped. To loosen, turn the EZ-Dial Clockwise. To tighten, turn the EZ-Dial Counter Clockwise. Adjustments should always be made in equal amounts on both sides.
    • Sealing: Once closed, seal both sides of the cover with the hook and loop system.
    • Opening: Open the tailgate. On the driver's side, release the trigger latch and lift up on the rear roll bar. Using both hands, roll the cover towards the front of the box (not against the cab). Securely fasten the retainer straps to store the cover.
  • Optional Use: Manual Slide Locks, located under the cover bar on both passenger and driver sides, can be pushed to engage for additional security or pulled to disengage. These are recommended for travel and before automatic car washes.
  • Safety Information:
    • Do not cover cargo higher than the cover.
    • Do not place objects on the cover or its framework.
    • Always secure cargo to prevent shifting and damage.
    • Do not use the framework to tie down cargo.
    • Never stand, sit, or ride on the cover.
    • Does not prevent theft; do not leave valuables unattended.
    • Does not eliminate moisture and dust; special packaging may be needed for contents.
    • Due to poor ventilation, leave the cover open if transporting pets/animals. Do not allow people or animals to occupy the box with the cover closed.
    • When towing backward, the cover must be fully open and secured with safety straps or fully closed and secured with manual slide lock.
    • ALWAYS finish securing the cover. Use caution in windy conditions.
    • Periodically check and/or retighten clamp bolts and front bar tensioning bolts.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Care:
    • Always keep the cover closed when not in use.
    • Keep hook and loop sealed when the cover is closed.
    • Keep the cover tight (drum-like sound).
    • Engage manual slide locks when traveling and before automatic car washes.
    • Avoid storing the cover in its rolled-up position for long periods.
    • Avoid allowing cargo to rub against the cover.
  • Cleaning:
    • For best results, use mild liquid soap and water.
    • Never clean with petroleum or citrus-based products, as they may dry out and damage the vinyl.
    • Periodically treat the cover with "Formula 2 cleaner" (or similar petroleum-based products that dry out and damage the vinyl, implying a non-petroleum cleaner is recommended, or the text might have a typo and mean instead of petroleum-based products). The manual states "Periodically treat cover with our Formula 2 cleaner instead of petroleum based products that may dry out and damage the vinyl." This suggests "Formula 2 cleaner" is a non-petroleum product.
    • Vinyl cover can be treated with water-based vinyl protectants; avoid silicon-based products.
  • Inspection:
    • Regular inspection and maintenance can be done by the operator.
    • Periodically inspect the cover assembly for loose bolts and parts; tighten as needed.
    • Test operation to ensure proper functioning.
    • Perform inspection/maintenance anytime a malfunction is observed or suspected.
    • If a latch is damaged, replace it with a new one.
    • Use original equipment replacement parts.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides solutions for common issues like cover too loose/tight, gap between roll-up bar and tailgate, cover too wide/narrow, lopsided cover, tailgate hitting the rear bar, and loose/tight manual slide locks.
