Overview

This document is a user guide for an Acer LCD Monitor, providing instructions for setup, usage, and maintenance, as well as safety and regulatory information.

Function Description

The Acer LCD Monitor is designed for video and visual display of information from electronic devices. It supports various display modes and resolutions, including VGA, MAC, VESA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, WXGA, WXGA+, WSXGA+, UXGA, QHD, and UHD, with refresh rates up to 75Hz depending on the resolution. The monitor is plug-and-play compatible, automatically communicating its capabilities to the host system via the DDC2B protocol. It supports HDMI and DP input signals.

Usage Features

The monitor offers a range of features to enhance user experience and comfort:

Unpacking and Setup

  • Included Items: The package includes the LCD monitor, a quick start guide, an AC power cord, and optionally, DP and HDMI cables.
  • Base Attachment: The monitor base can be easily attached by placing the monitor face-down on a stable, cloth-covered surface to prevent scratching.
  • Screen Position Adjustment: The monitor's tilt can be adjusted from -5 degrees (down) to 15 degrees (up) for optimal viewing.
  • Power Connection: The monitor features a universal power supply compatible with 100/120 V AC or 220/240 V AC. Users should ensure the correct power cord type is used for their region.
  • Signal Connection: It connects to a computer via HDMI (optional) and/or DP (optional) input sockets. An audio cable can optionally connect the monitor's audio input to the computer's line-out port for models with audio output.

Power Management

  • Power Saving Mode: The monitor enters a "Power Saving" mode, indicated by an amber power LED, when it receives a control signal from the display controller. The LED is blue when the monitor is ON. Recovery from Active OFF state to ON state takes approximately 3 seconds.
  • Sleep Mode: The display activates Sleep mode within 5 minutes of user inactivity.
  • Wake-up: The monitor can be woken from Active Off mode by moving the mouse or pressing any keyboard key.

User Controls and OSD (On Screen Display)

The monitor features external controls, including a power button and multiple function keys, which operate like a joystick for navigation. The OSD allows users to adjust various settings:

  • Main Page: Provides quick access to Hot Key1, Hot Key2, Hot Key3 (Input Switch), and the Main Menu.
  • Hot Key1 (Default: Standard Mode): Allows selection of game modes (G1, G2, G3 for user-defined profiles) or scenario modes (User, Standard, ECO, Graphics, Movie, HDR).
  • Hot Key2 (Default: Brightness): Opens the Brightness control for adjustment from 0 to 100.
  • Input Selection: Users can select input sources from HDMI1, HDMI2, DP, or enable Auto Source, which automatically searches for a signal source.
  • Picture Settings:
    • Brightness: Adjusts the overall luminance.
    • Contrast: Adjusts the difference between light and dark areas.
    • Black Boost: Enhances shadows by increasing brightness without affecting lighter shades (0-10).
    • Blue Light: Filters out blue light to protect eyes, with settings at 80%, 70%, 60%, or 50%. A lower value provides better protection, with 50% being the optimal state tested by TÜV Rheinland.
    • ACM (Adaptive Contrast Management): Dynamically adjusts contrast based on the current screen content.
    • HDR (High Dynamic Range): Can be set to Off or Auto. When set to Auto, it automatically detects and processes HDR signals, and the Modes will also be set to "HDR." Some parameters (ACM, Gamma, Contrast, Blue Light, Black Boost) may be grayed out in HDR Auto mode.
    • Super Sharpness: Simulates high-resolution images by boosting pixel density for sharper and clearer visuals.
  • Color Settings:
    • Gamma: Adjusts the luminance tone (default 2.2 for Windows).
    • Color Temperature: Options include Cool, Normal, Warm (default), Bluelight, or User.
    • sRGB Mode: Can be turned On or Off for better color matching with peripheral devices.
    • Grayscale Mode: Allows selection of Grayscale mode.
    • 6-axis Hue: Adjusts the hue for red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan.
    • 6-axis Saturate: Adjusts the saturation for red, green, blue, yellow, magenta, and cyan.
  • Audio Settings:
    • Volume: Adjusts the audio output volume.
    • Mute: Toggles audio mute On or Off.
  • Gaming Settings:
    • Over Drive: Selects Off, Normal, or Extreme for response time.
    • AMD FreeSync: Controls support for AMD FreeSync (default On). If FreeSync is On, Over Drive is automatically set to "Normal." If Off, users can choose Extreme, Normal, or Off for Over Drive.
    • Refresh Rate Num: Displays the panel's current refresh rate.
    • Ultra-Low Latency: Speeds up display switching (On/Off). Not supported below 800x600 resolution.
    • Aim Point: Displays an aim point on the screen for shooting games.
  • OSD Settings:
    • Language: Sets the OSD menu language.
    • OSD Timeout: Adjusts the delay before the OSD menu turns off.
    • Transparency: Selects OSD transparency (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%) in gaming mode.
    • OSD Lock: Locks all OSD keys. When "On," an "OSD Locked" message appears, and LED lights change from blue to orange.
  • System Settings:
    • Input: Selects the source from HDMI1, HDMI2, DP.
    • Auto Source: Automatically searches for a signal source (default On). Note: For surround applications, Auto Source must be "Off."
    • DP Format: Supports DP1.1 or DP1.2 (default DP1.2).
    • Wide Mode: Selects screen aspect (Aspect or Full).
    • Hot Key Assignment: Assigns functions (Modes, Volume, Brightness, Gamma, Contrast, Blue Light, Over Drive) to shortcut keys 1 and 2.

Maintenance Features

The user guide provides clear instructions for maintaining the monitor and ensuring user safety and comfort:

Cleaning

  • Monitor Cleaning: Always unplug the monitor before cleaning. Use a soft cloth to wipe the screen, cabinet front, and sides.

Safety and Comfort

  • Accessibility: Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible and close to the operator for quick disconnection.
  • Safe Listening: Gradually increase volume, avoid high volumes for extended periods, and turn down volume if unable to hear nearby conversations.
  • Warnings: Do not use near water, on unstable surfaces, or block ventilation openings. Avoid pushing objects into slots or spilling liquids. Do not place on vibrating surfaces or use in vibrating environments. The adapter is for this monitor only.
  • Electrical Power: Operate from the specified power type. Do not overload power outlets or allow objects to rest on the power cord. The power cord has a three-wire grounded plug; ensure the outlet is properly grounded.
  • Product Servicing: Do not attempt to service the product yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel, especially if the power cord is damaged, liquid is spilled, the product is exposed to water, dropped, or exhibits a change in performance.
  • Potentially Explosive Environments: Switch off the device in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Additional Safety Information: Keep small parts out of reach of children.
  • IT Equipment Recycling: Acer is committed to environmental protection and recycling. Information on recycling and WEEE regulations is provided via web links.
  • LCD Pixel Statement: Acknowledge that the LCD unit may have minor pixel blemishes (0.01% or less) which are normal and do not constitute a malfunction.
  • Comfortable Use:
    • Vision Care: Rest eyes frequently, take breaks, blink often, keep the display clean, adjust display height, brightness, and contrast. Eliminate glare and reflections by positioning the display away from light sources, minimizing room light, using a task light, changing viewing angle, using a glare-reduction filter, or a display visor. Avoid awkward viewing angles and looking at bright light sources for extended periods.
    • Work Habits: Take short breaks, perform stretching exercises, breathe fresh air, and exercise regularly.
    • Comfort Zone: Adjust viewing angle, use a footrest, or raise sitting height. Avoid fixed postures, slouching, and lean back. Stand up and walk around regularly.

Troubleshooting

A troubleshooting list is provided to help users self-diagnose common issues before seeking service. For example, if there is no picture visible, users should check the LED status (Blue or Amber) and perform actions such as adjusting brightness/contrast, checking the power switch, AC power cord, video signal cable, computer power/standby mode, and OSD Lock status.
