The Ademco Vista 128 is a security system designed to protect premises, offering a range of features for arming, disarming, and managing security zones. It supports multiple user access levels and provides clear indications for system status and trouble conditions.
Function Description
The primary function of the Ademco Vista 128 is to monitor and secure a property. It operates by detecting breaches in protected areas through various sensors. When armed, the system will trigger an alarm if a protected zone is violated. The system can be armed in different modes:
- AWAY mode: This mode is used when you are leaving the premises. It arms all sensors, providing full protection. To arm in AWAY mode, you enter your security code followed by [AWAY].
- STAY mode: This mode is used when you are not leaving the premises but want to secure the perimeter. It typically arms exterior sensors while allowing movement within the property. To arm in STAY mode, you enter your security code followed by [STAY].
Disarming the system involves entering your security code followed by [OFF]. This action clears any alarm events and allows free movement within the protected areas.
The system also includes a "chime mode," which provides an audible alert (three tones) whenever a protected door or window is opened while the system is in this mode. This feature is useful for monitoring entry and exit points without fully arming the system.
Usage Features
The Ademco Vista 128 offers several features to enhance its usability and adaptability:
- Keypads: The system supports different types of keypads, including Standard Fixed-Word Display Keypads, Voice-Capable Alpha Display Keypads, and Standard Alpha Display Keypads, providing flexibility in how users interact with the system.
- Bypassing Protected Areas: This feature allows you to intentionally disarm specific zones while the rest of the system remains armed. This is useful if you need to access a particular area or if a sensor in that area is temporarily out of service. To bypass a zone, you enter your [security code] + [BYPASS] + [3-digit zone number]. To unbypass a zone, you enter your [security code] + [OFF].
- User Access Codes: The system supports up to 148 additional users, each with a specific authority level. This hierarchical structure ensures that different users have appropriate access to system functions.
- Level 1 Master Manager: Can perform all system functions in assigned partitions and can add, delete, or change Manager and Operator level users. Master codes can only be added by the Installer.
- Level 2 Manager: Can perform system functions in assigned partitions and can add, delete, or change Operator level users.
- Level 3 Operator A: Can perform system functions in assigned partitions but cannot add or delete other users.
- Level 4 Operator B: Similar to Operator A, but cannot bypass zones of protection.
- Level 5 Operator C: Can arm the system in assigned partitions but cannot disarm the system unless the system was armed with this code. This is typically assigned to a trusted person who may need to arm/disarm the system at certain times, such as a babysitter.
- Level 6 Duress: Using this code to arm or disarm the system will send a silent panic alarm to the central monitoring station, if that service is connected.
- Adding/Changing/Deleting Users:
- To add a user, enter your [Master code] + [8] + 3-digit [new user number] + [new user's 4-digit code]. The system will then prompt you to set the user's authority level, group bypassing permissions, access group number (if schedules are programmed), RF button assignment (if applicable), multi-access to other partitions, global arming capability, and access to other partitions.
- To change a user code, enter the [master code] + [8] + [user number to be changed], then enter the new user code.
- To delete a user, enter your [Master code] + [8] + [user number to be deleted]. The keypad will beep and verify after approximately three seconds.
- Adjusting Volume: The beep volume on the Ademco Vista 128 can be adjusted. To increase the volume, press [#] + [0] + [2] + [3]. To decrease the volume, press [#] + [0] + [2] + [6].
- Date and Time Settings: The system allows you to change the date and time. To do this, enter your [Master code] + [FUNCTION] + [6] + [3]. Use the [] key to move the cursor and set the month, hour, minute, date, and year. Press any key from 0-9 to toggle between AM and PM. To exit, press [] when the cursor is in the year position.
Maintenance Features
The Ademco Vista 128 includes features to help users maintain the system's operational status and address issues:
- Battery Monitoring: The system operates on a UB1270 battery. It provides clear indications for power status:
- NO AC: Indicates a loss of AC power and that the system is running on backup battery power.
- BAT: Indicates a low battery condition.
Instructions for replacing the battery can be found on the Battery Replacement Page.
- Trouble Conditions: The system will alert you to trouble conditions with the word "CHECK" and continuous beeping from the touchpad. Pressing any key will silence the beeping. A display of "CHECK + zone no." indicates a specific problem that requires attention. This could mean an open door or window, or an issue with a wireless sensor due to environmental changes. To clear the trouble condition, you should check the specified zone area, close any open doors or windows, and then enter your security code and press [OFF].
- Resetting the System: After an alarm event, the display can be cleared by entering your [security code] + [OFF]. This action clears the alarm event history from the display.
