The ADJ VF400 is a commercial fog machine designed for reliable performance over many years when operated according to the guidelines provided in its user manual. This device incorporates a revolutionary new heating element specifically engineered to prevent excessive particle buildup, a common cause of premature fogger failure. Additionally, the VF400 features a wide-angle spray nozzle and a long-life pump, both of which are specially designed to deliver high-performance fog output. A removable remote control device is included for convenient operation.
The primary function of the ADJ VF400 is to produce fog for various applications, such as enhancing lighting effects, creating atmospheric ambiance, or for theatrical productions. It achieves this by heating a specialized water-based fog fluid to create a hot vapor, which is then expelled through its nozzle. The design prioritizes consistent and efficient fog production, aiming to minimize common issues like clogging and pump failure.
Setting up the VF400 is a straightforward process. Upon unboxing, users should carefully remove all packing material, paying particular attention to the area around the nozzle. The machine should be placed on a flat, dry surface. An included bracket can be attached to the sides of the fog machine using supplied hardware; while detachable and not required for tabletop use, it is essential for suspended installations. The fog fluid reservoir must be filled exclusively with ADJ brand fog juice, and the cap should be securely replaced. It is crucial to always maintain an adequate supply of ADJ® Brand Fog juice™ in the fluid reservoir, as running the machine dry is the most common cause of pump failure and/or clogging.
The remote control unit, the VF400R, connects firmly to a dedicated socket on the back of the unit. Once plugged into a power supply that meets the required voltage, a red LED on the remote control will illuminate, signaling that the device is warming up. The warm-up time is approximately five minutes. After the unit has reached its operating temperature, a green LED will also illuminate on the remote (the red LED should remain illuminated), indicating that the unit is ready to emit fog. To produce fog, users simply press and hold the button on the remote for the desired duration. If the green LED is on but no fog is emitted after pressing the button for 30 seconds, users should check the fluid tank for sufficient fog fluid. It is important to disconnect the unit from the power supply before removing or replacing the remote control unit.
Safety is paramount when operating the VF400. The unit emits hot vapor and should be handled with the same care as an electric kettle or iron. Users must never point or aim the fog machine towards people or their clothing. The device is intended for indoor use only, and outdoor use will void all warranties. It should always be mounted in a safe and stable manner, with at least 6 inches (15cm) clearance from any wall to ensure proper ventilation. The power cord should be routed out of the path of foot traffic to prevent it from being walked on or pinched.
Proper storage and maintenance are crucial for extending the life of the VF400. When not in use, the device should be stored in a cool area and covered to prevent dust buildup. For prolonged periods of inactivity, it is highly recommended to run the machine every 3-4 months, as extended idleness can severely shorten its lifespan. Only water-based fog juice should be used; running plain water, vinegar, or any other liquid solution through the machine will severely damage it.
In the event of low fog output, pump noise, or no fog output, users should immediately disconnect the device from power and discontinue use. Continuing to press the remote control's activation button under these circumstances may damage the device. Troubleshooting steps include checking the fluid level, the external fuse or breaker, and the remote connection, as well as verifying that the wall outlet is supplying power. If these factors do not resolve the issue, and the unit still fails to operate correctly, it may require service. Users should contact customer support for further instructions before returning the unit to a dealer.
Fuse replacement is a user-serviceable task. To replace a fuse, the unit must first be disconnected from its power source, and the power cord removed. The fuse holder is located inside the power socket. A flat-head screwdriver can be used to gently pry out the fuse holder. The old fuse should be removed and replaced with a new one. The fuse holder also conveniently includes a slot for a spare fuse.
The manufacturer's limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in material and workmanship for a prescribed period from the date of purchase. For warranty service, an Return Authorization (RA#) must be obtained from ADJ Products, LLC Service Department. The product must be shipped pre-paid to the ADJ Products, LLC factory in its original packaging, without accessories. The warranty is void if the serial number is altered or removed, if the product is modified in any manner that affects its reliability, if repairs are attempted by unauthorized personnel, or if the product is not properly maintained. The warranty does not cover maintenance, cleaning, or periodic check-ups.
