Overview

The ADVANTAGE S-150 is a state-of-the-art power amplifier designed for high-quality music reproduction. Manufactured in Sweden, it incorporates advanced design principles and craftsmanship to deliver a natural and enjoyable listening experience.

Function Description:

The S-150 is a power amplifier intended to amplify audio signals from a preamplifier or volume-controlled source and drive loudspeakers. It supports both balanced and unbalanced signal inputs, offering flexibility in system integration. The unit is designed with extremely short signal paths to preserve audio fidelity. A "Data Com" port allows for communication with other ADVANTAGE products, such as the S-2 preamplifier, enabling features like temperature information display and remote standby control.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: 230V, 50-60 Hz (voltage specification for the AC inlet).
  • Input Types: Balanced (XLR) and Unbalanced (RCA).
  • Output Connectors: Two pairs of speaker terminals per channel (marked + and -) for bi-wiring capability.
  • Signal Transmission: Employs balanced signal transmission, which uses two signal lines with opposite phases. This method effectively cancels out noise interference that may arise during transmission, ensuring a pure original signal.
  • Fuse: Replace fuse only with the same type and value as originally provided. Substitution with a larger fuse will void the warranty.

Usage Features:

  • "Burn-In" Period: Due to its design, the S-150 requires a significant "burn-in" period (recommended 5-6 weeks) to reach its maximum sonic potential. It is advised to leave the unit on or in standby mode at all times during this period.
  • Standby Mode: For best results, the S-150 should be left on or in standby mode at all times. The master ON/OFF switch should only be used if the unit will not be used for a significant period (e.g., during vacations).
  • Input Selection: A switch on the rear panel allows selection between balanced and unbalanced inputs.
  • Output Configuration: The two pairs of output terminals per channel are designed for "bi-wiring" speakers, allowing separate connections for high and low frequencies if the speakers support it.
  • Front Panel LED/Indicator:
    • Flashes during startup until all circuits reach full power.
    • Displays a steady light when the S-150 is in operation and there are no input signal problems (e.g., high DC-offset).
    • Flashes during operation if the S-150 is overheating. In this case, the user should turn the master switch off for a while and then turn it back on.
  • Rear Panel Master ON/OFF Switch: Used to turn the main power ON or OFF.
  • Placement: The S-150 should be placed on a flat, stable surface. Avoid placing it near heat sources (radiators, stoves, fireplaces) or in direct sunlight or extremely low temperatures.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Use only a soft tissue (Kleenex type) to clean the unit. Never apply abrasive or liquid cleaners directly to the S-150, as this may damage internal electronic components.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:
    • No sound: Check power cord, mains switch, standby mode, protection mode, or a blown fuse.
    • One channel inoperative: Check loudspeaker connections, hookup cables, and preamplifier/source.
    • Diffuse, weak bass/weak stereo image: Check loudspeaker connections for correct phasing.
  • Fuse Replacement: In case of a fuse failure, locate the fuse access hatch under the AC mains plug and replace it with an identical type and value. Using a different fuse type or value will void the warranty.
  • Servicing: To avoid electrical shock, do not open the unit's case as there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel only.
  • Warranty: Contact an authorized ADVANTAGE dealer for warranty details.
  • Obtaining Service: If service is required, contact your dealer. A Return Authorization must be obtained from the Technical Services Department before shipping the unit. Provide a specific and comprehensive description of the problem. Include a copy of the original bill of sale to verify warranty status.
  • Packaging for Service: All returned units must be properly packaged, preferably in their original packing material, with the return authorization numbers marked on the outer carton. Inadequate packaging may result in shipping damage, for which ADVANTAGE or the dealer will not be responsible. New shipping materials can be ordered from the dealer for a charge. It is strongly recommended to save all original packing materials.

Safety Information:

  • A lightning bolt symbol indicates the presence of uninsulated, dangerous voltage within the unit that could pose a risk of electric shock.
  • An exclamation mark symbol indicates important operating and maintenance instructions in the manual.
  • To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture.
  • The CE symbol indicates compliance with EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and LVD (Low Voltage Directive) standards of the European Community.
  • The information in the manual is subject to change without notice. The most current version is available on the manufacturer's website: http://www.bladelius.com.
