CHEMICAL SAFETY
Operator Cabs
FIG. 52: Cabs use filters that may not filter out
hazardous chemicals. Follow chemical manufacturer’s
instructions.
Cabs labelled "Enclosed Cabs for Pesticide
Application Incorporating Respiratory
Protection" or "ECPAR" comply with EPA Worker
Protection Standards for operating in a pesticide
environment. This does not include fumigants.
However, to remain in compliance, ECPAR cabs must
be operated with door closed and fan on max setting
when applying or operating in a treated area. Operators
must also avoid entering or exiting cab in treated areas.
Cabs must be equipped with required filters and
maintained properly. (See maintenance section of this
manual).
FIG. 53: Never spray hazardous chemicals when wind
is in excess of chemical manufacturer's
recommendation. Never allow chemicals to contact
skin or eyes.
FIG. 54: Always wear approved protective equipment
and clothing.
Before leaving cab, wear personal protective
equipment as required by pesticide use instructions
and chemical manufacturer recommendations. Before
re-entering cab, remove protective equipment and
store; either outside cab in a closed box or another type
of sealable screen. Inside cab, use a pesticide resistant
screen such as a plastic bag or approved screen.
Clean shoes or boots to remove soil or other
contaminants prior to entering cab.
Select a proper area to fill, flush, calibrates and
decontaminate machine. Select an area where
hazardous chemicals will not drift or run off to
contaminate people, animals, vegetation, water supply
etc.
If hazardous chemicals come in contact with body,
wash immediately according to chemical
manufacturer's recommendations.
Never place nozzles, tips or other parts to lips to blow
out trash or debris. Have spare tips available for
replacement.
