The
Intelligent-HQ
(|-HQ)
feature
Taligelelereritelae
é
AKAI
is
the
first
company
in
the
world
to
produce
a
VCR
that
uses
this
unique
feature
during
recording
and
playback,
so
we
would
like
to
give
you
a
brief
introduction
of
what
this
feature
does
and
how
it
works.
AKAI’s
newly
developed
“Intelligent-HQ”
technology
enables
this
VCR
to
achieve
optimum
performance,
during
recording
or
playback,
when
using
high
grade
video
cassette
tapes.
It
_
does
this
by
incorporating
an
Auto
Tape
Tuning
system,
as
30
used
in
high
quality
audio
cassette
decks.
It
is
designed,
during
playback,
to
enhance
the
picture
quality
of
recordings
made
on
high
grade
or
S-VHS
tapes,
and
to
im-
prove
the
signal
to
noise
ratio
(S/N)
of
tapes
that
have
been
shown
many
times
(normal
rental
tapes
for
example),
where
there
may
be
picture
“noise”
because
of
frequent
use.
When
you
are
using
S-VHS
tapes
(the
highest
quality
video
tape)
for
recording
TV
broadcasts,
or
dubbing,
the
quality
achieved,
with
the
I-HQ
feature,
is
comparable
with
recordings
made
on
S-VHS
VCRs,
giving
you
a
wonderfully
improved
pic-
ture
over
normal
(non
|-HQ)
VCRs.

When
recording
with
high
grade
video
tapes
(S-VHS
for
example)
on
a
normal
(non
I-HQ)
VCR,
you
don’t
get
the
full
benefit
of
the
visual
range
of
these
tapes.
This
is
because
most
VCRs
are
adjusted
to
optimum
performance
with
normal
tapes,
as
these
are
the
most
widely
used.
Now
you
can
get
the
full
benefit
of
high
grade
tapes
with
our
I-HQ
feature
which
“reads”
the
characteristics
of
the
tape
you
are
using
(during
playback
or
recording)
and
ensures
the
maximum
perfor-
mance
possible
(within
the
limits
set
by
VHS
standards).
Of
course,
using
the
I-HQ
feature
for
recording
and
playback
with
high
grade
tapes
will
result
in
an
even
more
dramatic
im-
provement
in
picture
quality,
providing
you
with
a
more
tex-
tured
and
lifelike
picture.
Note:
©
This
VCR
is
perfectly
compatible
with
non
I-HQ
VCRs.
e
Please
take
care
when
choosing
your
tapes
as
notall
tapes
labeled
“High
Grade’
are
really
high
grade
tapes.
If
you
are
in
doubt
use
“S-VHS”
or
“PRO”
tapes.
Also,
as
even
tapes
made
by
the
same
company
differ
in
characteristics
(be-
tween
E-180
and
E-240
for
example)
we
recommend
the
use
of
E-180
tapes
for
the
very
best
results.
How
I-HQ
works
_
During
recording:
When
you
press
the
record
button
and
the
I-HQ
button
the
Auto
Tape
Tuning
process
begins:
Recording
proceeds
for
approximately
two
seconds,
then
the
tape
is
automatically
re-
wound
and
these
two
seconds
are
played
back,
at
this
time
the
I-HQ
feature
reads
the
characteristics
of
that
specific
tape
and
memorizes
it,
after
which
the
tape
is
again
rewound
to
the
starting
position
and
the
VCR
enters
the
recording
pause
mode
(the
entire
process
taking
about
15
seconds).
This
oper-
ation
optimizes
the
tapes
full
potential,
and
the
tapes
charac-
teristics
are
stored
in
the
microprocessor’s
memory
until
the
tape
is
ejected,
or
the
power
supply
is
cut
off
from
the
VCR.
Note:
e
Ifatape
is
damaged,
or
faulty,
the
Auto
Tape
Tuning
pro-
cess
may
take
alittle
longer,
as
it
will
“read”
the
characteris-
tics
once
more.
During
playback:
When
you
play
back
a
tape
using
the
I-HQ
feature,
it
t
auttomati-
cally
adjusts
to
the
recorded
condition
of
the
tape
and
op-
timizes
noise
cancellation
and
the
reproduction
of
details.
Note:
e
Atape
recorded
by
S-VHS
format
(on
an
S-VHS
VCR)
can
not
be
played
back
on
an
I-HQ
VCR
and
vice
versa,
these
systems
are
not
interchangeable.
e
Although
you
can
choose
to
have
the
I-HQ
feature
onor
off,
we
recommend
thatit
always
be
left
on
during
playback
and
recording.
