Overview

This document is a User's Guide for Topload Washers, providing comprehensive instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance. It emphasizes safety precautions throughout, with clear warnings and important notes to ensure safe and effective use of the appliance.

The primary function of this device is to wash clothes. It is designed to handle various types of laundry with different soil levels and fabric requirements, offering a range of wash cycles and temperature options to optimize cleaning results while caring for garments.

Usage Features:

The washer offers several features to facilitate its use and enhance washing performance:

  • Cycle Selection: Users can choose from various cycles including Heavy Duty, Normal Eco, Perm Press, Delicate, and Handwash (on select models). Each cycle is tailored for specific fabric types and soil levels. For instance, Heavy Duty is for sturdy, heavily soiled items, while Delicate is for sensitive garments and items requiring gentle movement. The Normal Eco cycle is recommended for everyday cottons and linens, utilizing a spray rinse and less hot water for efficiency.
  • Load Size Options: The washer provides both Auto Fill and manual load size selections (Small, Large). Auto Fill is recommended for optimal wash performance as it automatically determines the appropriate water level based on the load size and fabric type, adjusting water as needed during the cycle. Manual selections allow users to choose lower water levels for smaller loads, ensuring items move freely. Overloading is discouraged as it can lead to poor washing and rinsing.
  • Wash Temperature Control: Users can select Hot, Warm, Cool, or Cold wash temperatures. Hot water is most effective for heavy soil, Warm for moderate soil and color retention, Cool for permanent press, and Cold for delicate items and colorfastness. All rinses use cold water to reduce wrinkling and color fading, and to save energy.
  • Heavy Soil Option: This feature extends the wash time by an additional 21 minutes across all cycles, providing extra treatment for heavily soiled items. In the Normal Eco cycle, it also includes a short soak period before agitation.
  • Extra Rinse Option: Available with Auto Fill, this option provides an additional rinse, which is particularly useful for detergent-sensitive skin. It is also recommended when using fabric softener with the Normal Eco or Spin Only cycles.
  • Spin Only Cycle (Select Models Only): This cycle is designed to extract water from wet items using a high spin speed. If the Auto Fill/Extra Rinse option is activated, it becomes a rinse and spin cycle.
  • Status Lights and Audio Signals: The washer provides visual (Status lights) and auditory cues to indicate the current stage of the cycle (Wash, Rinse, Spin, Lid Lock) and to signal the end of a cycle. Audio signals can be turned on or off.
  • Lid Lock Mechanism: For safety, the lid locks automatically after the initial wet-down fill and before agitation begins, and remains locked during agitation and spin cycles. It unlocks after a short pause at the end of the cycle.
  • Pausing and Canceling Cycles: Users can pause a running cycle by pressing the Start/Pause button, which unlocks the lid after a short delay. The cycle can be resumed from where it left off. Cycles can also be canceled by holding the Start/Pause button for three seconds, allowing for a change in cycle selection if needed.
  • Bleach Dispenser: Located in the left front corner under the lid, this dispenser is for liquid bleach only. It ensures proper dilution and distribution of bleach during the wash cycle.
  • Fabric Softener Dispenser: This dispenser allows for the addition of liquid fabric softener, which is diluted with water and dispensed during the first rinse cycle. It helps reduce static and improve fabric feel.

Maintenance Features:

The manual outlines several maintenance procedures to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the washer:

  • General Cleaning: The control panel should be cleaned with a damp or sudsy cloth, avoiding alcohol-based products. The washer cabinet should be wiped immediately if detergent, bleach, or other washing products are spilled to prevent permanent damage. The washtub is designed to be self-cleaning, but may require rinsing or wiping after unusual loads.
  • Odor Prevention: Leaving the lid open after use allows the inside of the washer to dry out, preventing musty odors.
  • Hose Inspection and Replacement: All hoses and rubber parts should be checked monthly for signs of deterioration (cracks, blisters, material wear) and replaced every five years to prevent leaks. Only manufacturer-recommended fill hoses should be used.
  • Filter Screen Cleaning: The filter screens in the fill hoses should be checked every six months for debris and cleaned or replaced if necessary, especially if water is filling slower than normal.
  • Winterizing the Washer: Specific steps are provided to prevent damage from freezing water if the washer is stored or operated in cold conditions, including unplugging, draining hoses, turning off water supply, and using compressed air to clear residual water from the valve.
  • Dispenser Cleaning: Detailed instructions are provided for disassembling and cleaning both the bleach and fabric softener dispensers to prevent buildup and ensure proper function. This includes soaking components in hot soapy water and scrubbing.
  • Preventative Maintenance Schedule: A table outlines monthly, every six months, and every five years maintenance tasks, including checking hoses, lid switch, washer level, cleaning the wash tub, and having a qualified service technician perform general preventative maintenance.
  • Reinstallation of Shipping Materials: Instructions are given for reinstalling the shipping brace and shipping plug whenever the washer is moved, to prevent damage during transit. The shipping brace fits over the agitator in the lid opening, and the shipping plug fits into openings on the bottom of the movable pivot dome and the base opening.
