Read Instructions Thoroughly Before Use
PRECAUTIONS
Use with grounded outlets only. Many older homes do not have
properly grounded outdoor electrical outlets. Check with an electrician
if you have any doubts concerning your electrical ground.
When using an extension cord, only use one rated for outdoor use.
The cord must be rated as an outdoor” cord by the manufacturer and
must be rated to carry more than 150 watts of power.
Do not let the connection lay in the snow or water.
Always be sure the bath is placed safely away from possible snow drifts.
Do not place bath directly on the ground.
Never place the bath where puddling or pooling of water is likely
to occur.
To clean the bath scrub out the dish without immersing lower section
in water. Never fully immerse bath in water.
Rate of evaporation: this bath was designed to be attractive to the
birds both in shape, slope, texture and depth. Due to these features the
bath has a rather large surface area relative to the amount of water it
holds. This is typical of a well designed, functional bird bath. During the
dry winter months the above features, coupled with a 45 to 55 degree
water temperature, will naturally accelerate evaporation. Therefore, do
not be alarmed if you must add water on a daily basis.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Heated Bird Bath does not heat the water all the time, as it contains
an automatic thermostat that cycles the water temperature between 40° F
and 50° F. This bird bath is designed to clamp to deck railings or pedestals
or it may also be placed on any flat surface. Once the mount is in place, you
can simply spin the bath on and off the mount for routine cleaning. You do
not have to reapply the mount every time you wish to clean your bird bath.
After the winter season, you can remove your mount from your pedestal or
deck railing and replace your Heated Bird Bath with your regular bird bath.
By doing this, you will extend the life of your Heated Bird Bath.
If your pedestal has a protrusion or “nub on top: The bird bath will not
clamp to a pedestal which has a screw protruding from the top (unless the
screw is removable). If your pedestal has some other protrusion on top, try
connecting the bracket to the protrusion following the same directions
as listed under the section titled Bird Bath pedestal 7.25” or less (follow the
directions as if the protrusion is the diameter of your pedestal).
Mounting your Heated Bird Bath
First, decide on what surface you will be mounting the bath. Second,
measure the width of the surface – if a deck rail, or measure the diameter –
if the surface will be a pedestal or stand. Third, look under the appropriate
heading in this manual and follow the directions.
Your bracket is attached to the bottom of the bird bath. To remove, simply
spin the bracket counterclockwise. Also contained is a bag of loose parts.
You will note the bracket, found under the bath, is preassembled to fit a
pedestal 7.25” or less. However, if your pedestal falls within this range, you
must still adjust the bracket to fit your particular pedestal diameter.
If you are planning to use a mount under one of the other headings, you
will want to disassemble this mount and use the parts to construct your
chosen mount.
The manual starts off with drawings of all the parts included with the
bracket. For assembly you will need a small screwdriver and an adjustable
wrench.

Overview

The device is a heated bird bath, identified as "HEATED 20" BIRD BATH" with Item # 600. It operates at 150 Watts and 120 Volts.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to provide a heated water source for birds, particularly during colder months. It is designed to be attractive to birds due to its shape, slope, texture, and depth. The bird bath includes an automatic thermostat that cycles the water temperature between 40°F and 50°F, preventing the water from freezing and ensuring a consistent temperature for the birds.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Item Number: 600
  • Power: 150 Watts
  • Voltage: 120 Volts
  • Diameter: 20 inches
  • Thermostat Range: 40°F to 50°F

Usage Features:

The bird bath offers versatile mounting options:

  • Pedestal Mounting: It can be clamped to pedestals of various diameters.
    • Pedestals 7.25" or less: The bracket is preassembled for this size. Users need to adjust the arms to fit the pedestal diameter, tighten set screws, and then spin the bath clockwise onto the center screw until tight. Shims are used if the pedestal is hollow or has a center hole to ensure a level mount.
    • Pedestals between 7.25" and 8.25": This configuration uses longer set screws (part #G) and a 2" elevator bolt (part #N). The arms are opened or closed to conform to the pedestal sides, and the set screws are tightened to dig slightly into the surface. Washers may be needed if the nut doesn't fit flush with the round disc.
    • Pedestals between 8.25" and 12": Similar to the 7.25"-8.25" range, but uses small set screws (part #F) instead of large set screws (part #G). The arms are adjusted to "hug" the pedestal sides, and set screws are tightened.
  • Metal Pole Mounting (Feeder Pole or Other Metal Pole): This setup uses long set screws (part #G) and does not require shims. The mount is centered on the pole, and the arms are extended an equal distance from the pole. The center nut is tightened, and the set screws are pressed on while tightening to ensure the lowest arm remains level and flush against the pole surface.
  • 4" x 4" Wooden Post or "Looker" Mfg. Stand Mounting: This method involves assembling the mount with the center nut loose enough to allow arm movement. The mount is centered on the post, ensuring the arm with the short set screw (part #F) is flush against the post side, and the other two arms with longer set screws (part #G) are pushed together. The center nut is tightened, and set screws are tightened to dig slightly into the wood. An angle bracket (part #J) is then attached to the arm with the small set screw, ensuring no air gap between the post and the bracket.
  • Wooden Railing Mounting:
    • Up to 3.5" Wide: The mount is assembled with loose nuts to allow bracket adjustment. The long set screw (part #G) is backed out, and the bracket is positioned so the elevator bolt (part #H) is in the center of the rail. The angle bracket (part #J) slides along the arm (part #A) to hug the railing sides. If the bracket doesn't open or close enough, alternative configurations or using the set screw as a spacer are suggested. Both nuts are tightened, and set screws are tightened just past the point of the mount bending.
    • From 3.5" to 8.75" Wide: Similar to the "up to 3.5" wide" method, but both arms (part #A) slide towards each other to hug the railing. If the bracket doesn't close enough, pushing the arms together and screwing the set screws deeper to act as spacers is recommended.
    • From 8.75" to 12" Wide: Similar to the 3.5"-8.75" wide method, but if the bracket is too large, a smaller configuration or permanent mount is suggested.
  • Permanent Mount: This option involves inserting a 1.5" elevator bolt (part #H) through the center square hole of the round disc (part #C), fastening it with three washers (part #K) and one hex regular nut (part #L). This assembly can then be fastened to any flat surface using two of the provided holes.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The dish should be scrubbed without immersing the lower section in water. The bath should never be fully immersed in water.
  • Water Refill: Due to the bath's design (large surface area relative to water volume) and the heated temperature (45-55°F), evaporation is naturally accelerated, especially in dry winter months. Users should not be alarmed if daily water refills are necessary.
  • Seasonal Removal: After the winter season, the mount can be removed from the pedestal or deck railing, and the heated bird bath can be replaced with a regular bird bath to extend its life.
  • Easy Cleaning Access: The bath can be spun on and off the mount for routine cleaning without reapplying the mount each time.
  • Troubleshooting Crooked Bath: If the bath sits crooked after mounting, it can be removed by rotating counter-clockwise. The appropriate set screw (F or G) can then be loosened, and the mount adjusted by moving the corresponding arm upward before re-tightening the set screw and placing the bath back on the mount. If the mount comes loose in a permanent mount, the set screws (G) should be tightened until the mount is fastened tight against the wood surface.
