2. Common Hemoflow 400 Related Issues
2.1- Overweight Collection (COO)
Why might this occur on session? The Hemoflow 400 is a sensitive medical device. Its ability to weigh
collection packs accurately can be affected by a number of things such as:
o Incorrect equipment set up
o Poor calibration
o Unwanted weight added or removed from the tray
o Knocking the tray during collection
The following checks can reduce the likelihood of incorrect weight readings and therefore unsuitable
collections
Donation Chair Set Up
Ensure the donation chair or pole stand is steady on the floor and does not wobble
The donation chair table should also be steady when attached to the chair, if there is an issue please
raise this with the chair maintenance supplier
Hemoflow 400 Tray Set Up
When clipping the tray into the barb connectors it should make a noticeable “click”
Ensure the tray arms are firmly clicked into the brackets on the back of the tray to hold them in position
The tray should be checked before starting each donation to ensure it is set up correctly
If the tray has any cracks in it, especially around the brackets for the arms please contact Equipment
Hub for replacement
Should the tray arms appear to be coming loose from the barb connectors please return the Hemoflow
400 to Equipment Hub and request a replacement
Tubing
Once the pack is placed on the tray and the tubing in the clamp, ensure there is enough slack in the
tubing to avoid the pack being lifted when the rocking motion begins
This can be tested by pressing “grams” then “mixer” from the menu once the pack in in place, this will
set the tray rocking without starting the donation so that the tubing length can be adjusted if necessary
Press “mixer” again to stop the tray rocking and start the donation as normal
Overflow Alarm
The overflow alarm will sound if the weight in the tray increases after the clamp has closed at the end of
the donation
This could be due to the forceps being applied to the bleed line too soon or the tray being knocked by
something
Once the donation has finished, allow 5 seconds for the Hemoflow 400 to finalise weight readings
before applying the forceps or adjusting the pack
Should the pack appear overweight, stop the donation immediately
Use another Hemoflow 400 to confirm the weight of the pack and refer to DAT201 and DAT1989 to
determine the outcome
Recalibrate the device that has produced the overweight donation
Should this device produce another overweight donation after recalibration, remove it form service and
return to the Equipment Hub
2.2- Clamp
Why might this occur on session? A clamp fault will most likely occur due ot a faulty pinch motor part or
a faulty sensor. Please see section 3 for a diagram of these parts.
