CONTROLLED
If the device is displaying any of the below faults, please return the Hemoflow 400 to the Equipment
Hub
o The clamp will not close on the bleed line
o The clamp is failing to release the bleed line
o The clamp is spinning/continuously moving
o The clamp is not registering that the tubing has been inserted
o There is no “OK” tick at start up (this is the clamp self-validation)
When inserting the tubing into the clamp use two hands and listen for an audible click
When removing the tubing, again, use two hands
2.3- Tilt Error
Why might this occur on session? The Hemoflow 400 has a sensitive tilt sensor. If the chair, table, or
venue flooring is not flat, this will activate the tilt alarm
Ensure the donation chair is set up on an even surface and is steady on the floor, check the chair table
is also steady
If a tilt alarm sounds, move the Hemoflow 400 to sit on an even surface such as the edge of a table or
desk
This should resolve the tilt alarm but if it persists leave the device on the even surface until it powers off
Without removing the Hemoflow 400 from the edge of the desk, switch it back on
If this does not resolve the tilt error, then return the device to the Equipment Hub
If a device is put away on a “tilt” (such as face down in the travel case) and allowed to switch off whilst
in this position and showing a tilt error, the next time it turns on it will display a tilt alarm
2.4- High/Low Flow Alarm
Why might this occur on session? The purpose of high and low flow alarms are to notify Hemoflow 400
users that a Blood Donor’s bleed rate is fast or slow flowing. The alarm will respond when the bleed rate
moves out of set parameters.
If during a high flow alarm, it is observed that the collection bag is filling rapidly, or blood is bright red, or
there is pulsating blood flow, consider this may be an arterial puncture and take corrective action
immediately
Some Donors will have a naturally fast bleed rate which will set off the alarm
When a slow flow alarm sounds, check for kinks in the tubing, that the cannula seal is fully broken and
that the needle positioning is correct
Some Donors have a naturally slow flow rate which will set off the alarm
2.5- Erratic Flow Rate
At the end of the donation the Hemoflow 400 stops rocking the tray and begins to weigh the donation
continuously
This causes the flow rate on the screen to change rapidly and appear like it may be an error
This is not an error and happens with every donation, the device does not need to be returned to the
Equipment Hub
This is most often noticed when an alarm has sounded and the Donor is being monitored at the end of a
donation
2.6- Comms Error
This is not an error but a notification to alert the Hemoflow 400 user that the device cannot make a Wi-
Fi connection
NHSBT have not purchased this function in the current fleet of Hemoflow 400
Leave the device to sit for a few seconds and the notification will remove itself form the display screen
