Function Description
The ASKO D5457 Dishwasher is designed for household and similar use, including staff kitchens, farms, hotels, motels, and bed & breakfast establishments. It offers various wash programs and options to accommodate different levels of dirtiness and user preferences.
Wash Programs:
- Daily wash: Suitable for day-to-day dishwashing, including dried leftovers, but not burnt food.
- Heavy wash: For very dirty dishes like pans, casserole dishes, and oven dishes. Can be used with plates if the dishwasher is not completely full.
- Normal program: For normally dirty dishes such as plates, serving dishes, cups, and glasses. Recommended for normally soiled mixed loads, offering optimal energy and water performance with low temperature and short drying (no options).
- Eco wash: Designed for water saving with normally dirty dishes.
- Time program: Adapts to a specified running or finish time, suitable for dishes with varying levels of dirtiness (0:30-1:15 for slightly dirty, 1:30-2:00 for normally dirty, 2:15-3:00 for very dirty).
- Rinse & Hold: Used to rinse dishes while waiting for the dishwasher to be fully loaded, preventing unpleasant odors.
Options:
- High temperature: Improves dishwashing results by using a higher temperature for the main wash. Not available with "Time saver."
- Long dry: Increases the final rinse temperature and extends the drying phase for improved drying results. Not available with "Time saver."
- Time saver: Shortens the program time but uses more energy and water. Available with Daily wash, Heavy wash, or Normal program.
- Delayed start: Allows the dishwasher to start 1-24 hours after pressing Start/Stop.
Child Safety:
The dishwasher includes a child safety lock (Kid Lock™) to prevent children from opening the door and a button lock (Kid Safe™) to prevent accidental program starts.
Overflow Guard Function:
The overflow protection system automatically pumps out water and turns off the water supply if the water level exceeds normal limits.

Usage Features
Front Panel:
The touch-sensitive front panel features buttons for program selection (Program selector, Daily wash, Heavy wash, Normal program, Eco wash, Time program, Rinse & Hold) and options (High temperature, Long dry, Time saver, Delayed start, Set time). It also includes a Start/Stop button, a display, and indicators for rinse aid and child lock. The display brightness reduces after two minutes of inactivity to save energy.
Loading:
- Economic Dishwashing: Run programs only with a full load. Use Rinse & Hold for partial loads. Consider lower temperatures for lightly dirty dishes. Scrape off large food particles instead of rinsing under running water.
- Detergent: Use only dishwasher detergent. Add according to water hardness and packaging instructions. Avoid excessive detergent. Dishwasher tablets are not recommended for short programs (less than 75 minutes).
- Rinse Aid: Top up rinse aid to the "max" level for faster drying. Dosage can be adjusted from 5:0 (Off) to 5:6 (High dose) in settings. An indicator lights up when rinse aid is low.
- Baskets:
- Upper Basket: For glasses, cups, bowls, side plates, and saucers. Wine glasses can be placed on the wine glass shelf. Sharp knives go in the special knife basket or knife stand. The upper basket height is adjustable.
- Lower Basket: For plates, side plates, serving dishes, pots, and cutlery. Pots and pans are best placed in the rear left for optimal performance from the Power Zone™ Pot & Pans spray nozzle. Fold-down plate supports accommodate larger items.
- Cutlery Basket: Place cutlery with handles down (except knives) and spread out. Best placed in the middle front of the lower basket for Power Zone™ Cutlery. Has a fold-down section for small items.
- Fragile Dishes: Position items to avoid contact. Use lowest possible wash temperature and shortest program. Antique and very fragile items should not be washed.
- Special Materials:
- Porcelain with decoration: Avoid washing if decoration feels rough.
- Glass: Wash at low temperature with minimal detergent to prevent grey film.
- Silver & Stainless Steel: Avoid contact between them to prevent discoloration.
- Cutlery with glued handles: Check for dishwasher safety.
- Wood: Only wash if marked dishwasher safe.
- Aluminium: May lose shine, but good quality pans can be washed.
- Plastic: Avoid washing items that cannot withstand high temperatures.
Starting a Program:
- Load baskets.
- Check spray arms and water tap.
- Add detergent.
- Press main power switch and close door.
- Select program and options.
- Press and hold Start/Stop for two seconds.
Adding Dishes:

Program Interruption:
If power is cut or the door is open for more than 2 minutes during drying, the program is interrupted. It resumes when power is restored.
End of Program:
"End" appears on the display, and a buzzer sounds. The dishwasher uses standby power. Turn off the main power switch and water supply valve for complete power cut.
Maintenance Features
Filters:
- Coarse Filter: Traps large food particles. Lift handle, empty, and replace. Ensure it's fully locked.
- Fine Filter: Rinsed automatically during washes but should be cleaned a couple of times a year. Turn handle anticlockwise, lift pipe section, remove fine filter, clean, and replace in reverse order, ensuring edges seal and handle points straight out.
Drainage Pump:
Accessible from inside the dishwasher.
- Cut power.
- Remove coarse filter and pipe section.
- Remove small yellow fitted piece at the bottom drain.
- Turn pump blade with finger to release blockages.
- Reinstall fitted piece and filters.
- Plug in machine. If a whirring sound persists, turn off water, unplug, and call service.
Spray Arms:
Holes and bearings can become blocked.
- Lower Spray Arm: Pull straight up to release. Clean debris with a needle.
- Upper Spray Arm: Pull out basket, unscrew bearings, remove, clean, and screw back firmly.
Door:
Clean the edge around the door with a slightly damp cloth. Avoid spraying water near the door lock.
Limescale Deposits:
If hard water causes limescale, run a Normal program with high temperature and two tablespoons of citric acid (no dishes).
Front Panel:
Keep touch buttons clean and grease-free. Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid cleaners that scratch surfaces. Turn off main power switch before cleaning buttons to prevent unintentional activation.
