Driving with an insufficient oil level is like-
ly to cause severe damage to the eng ine.
@ Tips
- The oil press ure warning display . is
not an indicato r of t he oil level. Do not
rely on it. Inste ad, check th e oil level in
your engine at regula r intervals, pref-
erably each t ime you refuel, and always
before going on a long trip.
- If you have the impression your engine
consumes excessive amounts of oil, we
recommend that you consult your Audi
dealer to have the cause of your conce rn
properly diagnosed. Keep in mind that
the accurate measurement of oil con-
sump t ion requires great care and may
take some time. Your Audi dealer has in-
str uctions about how to measure oil con-
sumption accurately.
Checking the engine oil level

Depending on the way the veh icle is driven
and the operating conditions, oil consumption

can be up to 1/2 quart pe r 600 miles (0.5 liter
per 1,000 km). Consumption may be higher
within the first 3,000 miles (5,000 km) .
(D Tips
The oil level indicator in t he MMI Display is
on ly an information display. If the oil level
is low, a minimum oil warning appears in
the instrument cluster. Add oil
c::;, page 229. If the hood has been opened,
the current oil level is shown in the instru-
ment cluster the next t ime the ignition is
switched on.
