Replacing wheels
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your own
and your passenger's safety when changing a
wheel .

A WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while
chang ing a wheel if you do not follow these
safety precautions :
- If you have a flat t ire, move a safe distance
off t he road. Turn off t he engine, t urn the
emergency flashers on and use other warn -
ing devices to alert other motorists .
- Make sure t hat passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and we ll away
from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
sudden ly and possibly slipping off t he jack,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the front and back of the wheel diagonally
opposite the wheel being changed. When
one front whee l is lifted off the ground,
placing the Automatic Transm ission in P
(Park) will
not prevent the vehicle from
moving.

- Before you change a whee l, be sure the
ground is level and firm . If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle too l kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com-
partment

Before changing the wheel, you must activate
the jacking mode, so that the automatic con-
tro ls for the Adaptive Air Suspension* do not
make it more difficult to lift the vehicle with
the jack ¢

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described below step-by-step and in exactly that
order.
l. Activate the vehicle jack mode* ¢ page 229.
2. Remove the decorative wheel cover* or the
wheel bolt caps *. For more details see also
¢ page 228, Decorative wheel covers or
¢ page 228, Wheels with wheel bolt caps .
3. Loosen the whee l bolt s ¢ page 229.
4. Locate t he proper mount ing point for the
jack and align the jack below that point
¢ page 229 .
S. Raise the car with the jack ¢ page 229 .
6. Remove the wheel with the fl at tire and then
install
the spare ¢ page 231.
7. Tighte n all wheel bolts lightly .
8.
Lower the vehicle with the jack .
9. Use the wheel bolt wrench and
firml y tighten
all wheel bolts ¢
page 229.
10. Replace t he decorat ive whee l cover* or the
wheel bolt caps *.
11. Deactivate the vehicle jack mode* in t he
MMI:
ICARI function button > (Car)* system s
contro l button > Servicing & che cks > Air
susp.: jack mode> Off.
