– Place used oil collection and extraction unit -V.A.G 1782- be‐
low gearbox.
– Remove flange shaft (right-side) ⇒ page 127 .
– Unscrew bolts in the sequence -11 ... 1- and remove cover for
front final drive together with outer race for tapered roller bear‐
ing and shim.
Note
The thickness of the shim has been measured to fit; the shim must
not be replaced with another shim of different thickness.
– Renew O-ring -arrow-.
Note the following if the outer race for tapered roller bearing and
the shim have dropped out of the front final drive cover:
– Lubricate shim and outer race for tapered roller bearing with
gear oil and insert in cover for front final drive as far as stop.
