The U141v+ is a control module designed specifically for Variable Air Volume (VAV) terminal box applications. It is part of the U-Line family of control modules from Automated Logic Corporation and utilizes an improved algorithm for local flow control. The module is designed to be mounted directly on the VAV box damper shaft and includes an integrated flow sensor and a Belimo LM-24 actuator.

Function Description:

The U141v+ controls air flow in the zone using its built-in actuator and flow sensor. It communicates with other U-Line modules on the Unet using BACnet MS/TP protocol over EIA-485 twisted pair wire. Communication with the CMnet is achieved through Unet Interface modules (UNIs). For WebCTRL systems, the DRV_UNI16 or DRV_UNI32 module driver is required, while for SuperVision systems, the U1M, U3M, U5M, or UNM module driver is used.

The module is programmed with a Graphic Function Block (GFB), which is transferred into the UNI. GFBs for U-Line modules are created in Eikon for WebCTRL or Eikon using the Zone GFB option. A default algorithm can be loaded into the U-card to provide stand-alone control functions if communications between the U-card and the UNI are disrupted. This ensures continued space temperature control even if communication is lost.

The U141v+ is designed for low-end, high-volume terminal control applications. It is important to note that time-critical applications, such as short time delays and trend intervals of less than one minute, should not be used with these modules. Automated Logic Corporation recommends setting all time delay functions and trend intervals in U141v+ FBs to at least one minute.

Usage Features:

Job Start-Up: Requires using the appropriate version of Eikon (for WebCTRL or Eikon 3.0a or later) to create GFBs for U-Line modules, with the Zone GFB option enabled. The correct module driver must be used (DRV_UNI16/32 for WebCTRL, U1M/U3M/U5M/UNM for SuperVision). U-Line modules must be connected to the Unet and the UNI, and their GFBs transferred to the UNI.
Mounting: The module is placed on the VAV box by feeding the damper shaft through the shaft slot. The damper shaft and motor are then positioned, and the shaft clamp tightened. A mounting screw is inserted into the stabilizing slot to secure the module. A crucial caution is not to position the module so that the shaft slot is in the upper right, as this can cause condensation from the VAV shaft to drip onto electronic components. The motor assembly may need to be re-positioned for proper mounting, which involves removing the cover, detaching the motor assembly, re-routing the cable, and re-attaching the assembly.
Addressing: The U141v+ uses dual rotary switches for assigning its board address (tens and ones digits). The module's address must match its FB number in the UNI. The BACnet Device Instance number can be assigned by the UNI or individually specified.
Power Wiring: The U141v+ is a Class 2 device (less than 30VAC, 100VA maximum). Multiple modules can be powered from the same transformer by daisy-chaining, ensuring the same polarity. The maximum number of modules per transformer is calculated by dividing the transformer's VA by the sum of the module's VA and any accessories' VA. It operates within 21.6VAC to 26.4VAC.
Communications Wiring: Uses EIA-485 twisted pair wire. An unshielded communication wire is sufficient. A PROT485 surge protector is recommended within 250 feet of any U-line module on the Unet. The Unet baud rate (9600 bps or 38.4 kbps) is determined by the UNI module and automatically detected by the U141v+.
LogiStat Port Communication: A workstation can be connected to the Unet via a LogiStat sensor for passthrough communication. This connection is fixed at 1200 baud. When the LogiStat Adaptor cable is inserted, the U141v+ cannot read LogiStat inputs but continues to use the last valid readings.
Input Wiring: Supports thermistor (Precon type 2, 10kohm at 77°F), 0 to 5VDC signals, and dry contact inputs. For 0 to 5VDC signals, pull-up jumpers behind the input port must be removed.
Output Wiring: The digital output is a dry contact (1A max) configured as normally open, supporting up to 24 Volts AC/DC. The analog output supports 0 to 10VDC devices with a minimum resistance of 2000 Ohms to ground.
Flow Sensors: The module uses its built-in actuator and flow sensor for air flow control. Configuration 1 must be indicated for flow control on the UNI module driver's Parameter page. The high and static pressure lines from the VAV box are connected to the module's HI and LO sides, respectively. The Airflow microblock in the module's GFB must be calibrated.
Point Identifiers: Points are identified by point number and type in WebCTRL, or by channel number in SuperVision. Expander number zero represents I/O points on the U141v+.

Maintenance Features:

Diagnostic LEDs: The U141v+ has visual (LED) indicators for troubleshooting:
- Run LED: Blinks twice per second for normal operation, five times per second for firmware transfer, and once every two seconds for auto-detecting baud rate.
- Error LED: Blinks twice per second for firmware error (requires memory transfer to correct) and solid for hardware failure.
- CW LED: Solid when the actuator motor turns clockwise, blinking when it hits end-of-travel.
- CCW LED: Solid when the actuator motor turns counterclockwise, blinking when it hits end-of-travel.
- Power LED: On when the module is powered.
- Rx LED: On when the module receives data.
- Tx LED: On when the module transmits data.
- DO1 LED: On when digital output 1 is active.
Production Date: The module's production date can be found in the module status report in WebCTRL or SuperVision, or on a sticker on the back of the module. The sticker's format indicates the module type, year, and month of manufacture (month digit in hexadecimal).
