Overview

This document describes the Barton Portable Two Burner Table Top Gas Grill, an outdoor cooking appliance designed for convenience and portability. This grill is intended for outdoor use only, in a well-ventilated space, and is not suitable for installation in or on recreational vehicles or boats. It is crucial to adhere to all safety warnings and instructions provided in the manual to prevent injury or property damage.

Function Description:

The Barton Portable Two Burner Table Top Gas Grill is a compact and versatile gas grill equipped with two main burners, offering a total gas consumption of 20,000 BTU (5.8 kW) when all burners are set to "HI." It is designed to operate with propane (LP) gas only, specifically with disposable 1 lb propane cylinders (approximately 4 inches in diameter and 7 inches long), which must be purchased separately. The grill features a gas pressure regulator that attaches directly to the burner, ensuring the correct outlet pressure for optimal cooking performance. The design includes a grease tray for easy cleaning and a flame tamer to distribute heat evenly and protect the burners. The grill is equipped with control knobs for adjusting the flame intensity and an igniter for convenient lighting. In case the igniter fails, a lighting rod is provided for manual match lighting.

Usage Features:

The grill is designed for ease of use and portability, making it ideal for various outdoor cooking scenarios.

  • Outdoor Use Only: The grill must always be used outdoors in a well-ventilated area. It should never be operated in an enclosed space, garage, or building.
  • Clearance Requirements: Maintain a minimum distance of 36 inches (10 feet recommended) from combustible materials from the back and sides of the grill. It should not be located under overhead surfaces that can catch fire, such as closed carports, garages, porches, or patios.
  • Propane Cylinder Connection: The grill connects directly to a 1 lb disposable propane cylinder via the supplied gas regulator and hose assembly. Care must be taken to engage the threads correctly when connecting the cylinder to ensure a proper and intended connection. The cylinder should always be kept in an upright (90°) orientation to provide vapor withdrawal.
  • Leak Testing: Before initial use and after each re-connection of the LP gas cylinder, a leak test must be performed using a soap solution. Bubbles indicate leaks, which must be corrected before using the grill. Never perform a leak test with an open flame.
  • Lighting Procedure: To light the main burners, ensure the lid is open and all control knobs are in the "OFF" position. Turn on the cylinder valve, then push and slowly turn the burner knob to "MAX" and release. If ignition does not occur within 5 seconds, turn off the control(s), wait 5 minutes, and repeat the procedure. For match lighting, use the attached lighting rod, ignite a match, and insert it through the cooking grids to the burner. Remove cooking grids when using a match to light the grill.
  • Unattended Operation: Never operate the appliance unattended.
  • Safety Precautions: Keep away from the grill if a fire occurs and immediately call the fire department. Do not attempt to extinguish an oil or grease fire with water. Keep any electrical cord or fuel supply hose away from heated surfaces.
  • Storage: When not in use, the LP gas cylinder must be turned "OFF" and stored outdoors, out of reach of children, and not in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area. The grill itself may be stored indoors if the LP gas cylinder is removed. Always place a dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet when not in use.
  • Hot Surfaces: The appliance will be hot during and after use. Use insulated oven mitts or gloves for protection from hot surfaces or splatter from cooking liquids.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the grill.

  • Area Clearance: Keep the outdoor cooking gas appliance area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
  • Ventilation: Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air. Ensure the ventilation opening(s) of the cylinder enclosure are free and clear from debris.
  • Burner Inspection and Cleaning: Periodically check the burner/venturi tubes for insects and insect nests. Spiders and other small insects can build webs or nests inside the burner tube, blocking gas flow and potentially causing a fire beneath the grill. Clean the burner prior to use after storing, at the beginning of the grilling season, or after a period of one month of disuse. The tubular stainless steel gas burner generally requires only inspection for insects/nests inside the air intake slots.
  • Flame Check: Visually check burner flames. Flames should be blue and stable with no yellow tips, excessive noise, or lifting. If these conditions are observed, check for blockages in the air shutter or burner ports.
  • Regulator and Hose Maintenance: The gas pressure regulator is shipped loose and must be installed prior to operation. Store the regulator in a clean, secure location when the grill is not in use, keeping the threaded cylinder connection area clean and free of dust, dirt, sand, or any foreign materials. Clean both the regulator and LP cylinder threaded areas prior to connecting. Normally, it is necessary to change the hose of the regulator every 4 years.
  • Leak Test Before Each Use: Check all gas supply fittings for leaks before each use. Keep a spray bottle of soapy water near the shut-off valve of the gas supply line to spray fittings; bubbles indicate leaks.
  • Grease Tray Cleaning: The grill includes a grease tray installed under the firebox to collect drippings, making cleanup easier. Regular cleaning of the grease tray is recommended.
  • General Inspection: Inspect the gas supply hose prior to turning on the gas. If there is evidence of cuts, wear, or abrasion, it must be replaced prior to use.
  • Replacement Parts: Only manufacturer-recommended parts should be used for replacement. Substitution will void the warranty. For replacement pressure regulator and hose assemblies, contact the grill manufacturer.
