Overview

This document describes the Belimo H2..S-.. series of 2-way globe valves with internal thread, designed for use in open and closed cold and hot water systems. These valves are suitable for modulating water-side control in air handling units and heating systems, including VAV reheat applications. The document also details the Belimo NV24A-MP-TPC globe valve actuator, which is compatible with these valves.

Function Description

The H2..S-.. globe valves are designed for precise control of fluid flow. They operate by modulating the flow of cold and hot water, with a maximum glycol content of 50%. The control path A-AB exhibits an equal percentage flow characteristic, optimized in the opening range, adhering to VDI/VDE 2173 standards with an n(gl) of 3.

The NV24A-MP-TPC actuator is a communicative, modulating globe valve actuator with an actuating force of 1000 N. It operates on AC/DC 24 V and can be controlled via MP-Bus or a standard modulating 2-10 V signal. The actuator moves the valve cone (throttling device) to the opening position dictated by the control signal, producing an equal-percentage flow characteristic through its profiled valve cone.

Usage Features

H2..S-.. Globe Valves:

  • Installation: Can be mounted either vertically or horizontally. It is not permissible to mount the globe valve with the stem pointing downwards.
  • Flow Direction: The direction of flow, indicated by an arrow on the housing, must be complied with to prevent damage.
  • Water Quality: Adherence to VDI 2035 water quality requirements is essential. Fitting strainers is advisable for extended service life.

NV24A-MP-TPC Actuator:

  • Mode of Operation:
    • Conventional: Connects with a standard modulating signal (0-10 V) and drives to the position defined by the signal. The measuring voltage U provides electrical display of actuator position (0.5-100%) and serves as a slave control signal.
    • Bus Operation: Receives digital positioning signals via MP-Bus. Connection U acts as a communication interface, not an analog measuring voltage.
  • Converter for Sensors: Allows connection of passive or active sensors or switching contacts. The actuator converts the sensor signal via MP-Bus to the higher-level system.
  • Parametrisable: Factory settings cover common applications, but parameters can be modified using Belimo Service Tools (MFT-P or ZTH EU).
  • Simple Direct Mounting: Mounts directly onto the globe valve using form-fit hollow clamping jaws. The actuator can be rotated 360° on the valve neck.
  • Manual Override: A push-button allows manual override, disengaging the gear. The stroke can be adjusted using a 4 mm hexagon socket screw key inserted into the top of the actuator.
  • High Functional Reliability: Overload protected, no limit switches, and automatically stops at end stops.
  • Adaption and Synchronisation:
    • Automatic: Upon first power-up or after pressing the gearbox disengagement button, the actuator performs an adaption to adjust its operating range and position feedback to the mechanical setting range.
    • Manual: Can be triggered by pressing the "Adaption" button or with the PC-Tool.
  • Direction of Stroke: A switch allows changing the running direction in normal operation. Factory setting is actuator spindle retracted.
  • Position Indication: Mechanical indication on the bracket with tabs, automatically adjusts during operation.
  • Override Control: Possible with AC 24 V using relay contacts or a rotary switch, allowing for minimum, maximum, or intermediate position control.
  • Remote Control: Can be controlled remotely 0-100% with a positioner SG.
  • Follow-up Control: Position-dependent control.
  • 4-20 mA Control: Possible via an external 500 Ω resistor to convert the current signal to a voltage signal (DC 2-10 V).

Maintenance Features

H2..S-.. Globe Valves:

  • Maintenance-free: Both the globe valves and linear actuators are designed to be maintenance-free.
  • Service Work: Before any service work, the linear actuator must be isolated from power, pumps in the piping system must be switched off, and isolating fittings closed. The system must be cooled down and pressure reduced to atmospheric.
  • Reassembly: The system should not be returned to service until the globe valve and linear actuator are properly reassembled and the pipework refilled.

NV24A-MP-TPC Actuator:

  • Maintenance-free: The actuator is maintenance-free.
  • User Serviceability: The valve does not contain any parts that can be replaced or repaired by the user. The device may only be opened at the manufacturer's site.
  • Service Tools: The actuator can be parametrised via the service socket using the ZTH EU service tool or a PC-Tool for extended parametrisation.
  • Disposal: The device contains electrical and electronic components and must not be disposed of as household refuse. All local regulations must be observed.
