Overview

The Binary 260 Series 4K HDR In-Line Controller (B-260-HDMI-CTRL) is a versatile device designed to manage and enhance HDMI signals, offering advanced control and audio de-embedding capabilities. It supports high-resolution video up to 4K@60Hz with 4:4:4 8-bit chroma sub-sampling and is compatible with HDCP 2.2.

Function Description

The B-260-HDMI-CTRL acts as an in-line controller for HDMI signals. Its primary functions include:

  • HDMI Signal Management: It processes HDMI input signals, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance for connected displays.
  • Audio De-embedding: The device can extract audio from the HDMI input and output it through both digital coaxial (S/PDIF) and analog stereo (3.5mm jack) ports. This allows for integration with external audio distribution systems or amplifiers.
  • EDID Management: Equipped with a rotary switch, the device offers 15 EDID presets, which are crucial for resolving HDMI handshake issues, especially with older HDMI displays or DVI displays requiring amplified audio. It can also copy EDID from the HDMI output.
  • Automatic Control: A key feature is its ability to automatically trigger control commands based on input signal status. This includes:
    • CEC Control: Built-in CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) functionality allows it to turn CEC-enabled TVs on or off.
    • RS232 Control: It can store and send pre-loaded RS232 commands to power on or standby projectors or other display devices.
    • Relay Control: The device includes built-in relay control to automatically turn projection screens on or off in response to input signal changes.
  • Signal Equalization and Regeneration: It automatically compensates for input cable equalization and regenerates signals, ensuring signal integrity over longer cable runs.

    • POWER LED: Indicates if the device is powered on/off.
    • HDMI IN: Connects to an HDMI source.
    • EDID Rotary Switch: Manages EDID settings with 15 presets (0-F). Position 0 copies EDID from HDMI OUT, while other positions offer specific resolution and audio configurations.
    • S/PDIF OUT: RCA coaxial port for digital audio de-embedding.
    • AUDIO OUT: 3.5mm audio jack for analog stereo audio de-embedding.
  • Rear Panel Connections:
    • RELAY1 & RELAY2: Phoenix connectors for controlling projector screens (turn on/off).
    • HDMI OUT: Connects to an HDMI display.
    • RS-232: Phoenix connector for RS232 control of display devices.
  • Installation: The device comes with mounting brackets and screws for secure installation. It is recommended to disconnect power from all devices before wiring.
  • EDID Management: The EDID rotary switch allows users to select from various pre-defined EDID settings to ensure compatibility between the source and display. If EDID copy fails, a default 1920x1080@60Hz with stereo audio EDID is used. A device reboot is required for EDID settings to take effect.
  • RS232 Control Tool: A dedicated PC-based UART port configuration tool allows users to pre-load and store RS232 commands for controlling display devices. This tool enables setting baud rate, power on/off commands (with HEX option), delay times for automatic power-off, and terminator settings. It also supports setting relay modes (Latch or Momentary) and importing custom EDID files.
