  There are several reasons why the upper thread might be breaking. It could be that the upper thread tension is too strong, the needle is incorrectly installed, or the thread is too thick for the needle. Also, the thread take-up spring tension and height might be incorrect. Damage to the rotary hook, needle hole plate, needle or thread path, thread breaking from heat (if using synthetic thread), or incorrect threading could also be the cause. To resolve this, adjust the upper thread tension, correctly install the needle, select a thread that matches the needle, adjust the tension and height of the thread take-up spring, repair or replace any damaged parts, use a needle cooler (if using synthetic thread), or correctly thread the thread.
