Do you have a question about the Bryant 569J 08G Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The 569J*08G/H is an air-cooled condensing unit, designed for use with Puron® (R-410A) refrigerant. It is a single-circuit, two-stage unit, requiring one set of refrigeration piping.

Function Description:

This unit functions as a key component in a refrigeration system, specifically an air-cooled condensing unit. It is designed to condense refrigerant vapor into liquid, releasing heat to the outdoor air. The two-stage operation allows for more efficient cooling by adjusting capacity based on demand. The unit is equipped with a Comfort Alert Diagnostic Module (CADM) to monitor compressor operation and provide diagnostic feedback, including reverse power phasing (Alert Code 7).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Refrigerant: Puron® (R-410A). It operates at higher pressures than standard R-22 systems, requiring specific R-410A service equipment.
  • Capacity: The manual references a 7.5-ton dual-stage charging chart.
  • Electrical: Available in 208/230-3-60, 460-3-60, and 575-3-60 V-Ph-Hz configurations.
    • Control Power: Provides 24-v NEC Class 2 power for external control devices. Maximum available power is 20 VA.
    • Voltage Imbalance: Operation is not recommended if phase imbalance exceeds 2%.
  • Piping:
    • Liquid Line Sizes: Recommended sizes vary based on linear line length, from 1/2" to 5/8" OD.
    • Suction Line Sizes: Recommended sizes vary based on linear line length, from 7/8" to 1 3/8" OD.
    • Maximum Liquid Lift: Up to 100 ft (30.5 m) for indoor units above outdoor units.
    • Vertical Separation (Outdoor unit above indoor unit): Up to 200 ft (60 m) is permitted.
  • Compressor: Features scroll compressors.
  • Outdoor Fans: Permanently lubricated bearings.
  • Crankcase Heater: Essential for preventing liquid refrigerant absorption by oil during shutdown. Must be energized for 24 hours before compressor start-up.
  • Safety Switches: Includes low-pressure and high-pressure switches, both fixed, non-adjustable stem-mounted types.
  • Wind Baffles: Required for low ambient control (569J*08H models) to prevent abnormally low condensing temperatures.
  • Transformer: Unit-powered convenience outlets use a 1000 VA rated transformer.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: Requires adherence to all safety codes, including wearing safety glasses and work gloves. Brazing operations require quenching cloths and a fire extinguisher. Local building and electrical codes (ANSI/NFPA70 in USA, CSA C22.1 in Canada) must be followed.
  • Refrigerant Charging:
    • Puron® (R-410A) refrigerant is supplied in pink (rose) cylinders. Liquid refrigerant should always be removed from the cylinder.
    • Preliminary charge of at least 80% of the operating charge (from Physical Data table) must be added to the high side through the liquid service valve before compressor start-up to prevent damage.
    • For linear line lengths longer than 125 ft (38 m), contact a local Bryant representative for system charge value.
    • The charging chart (Fig. 19) is used to adjust charge based on temperature and pressure at the liquid valve.
  • Electrical Connections:
    • Field-supplied wiring must conform to 63°F (33°C) rise limitations.
    • Units may have multiple disconnects, and all power switches must be turned off and locked out before service.
    • Convenience outlets (125-volt GFCI duplex receptacle, 15-A rated) are available in non-powered (field-supplied circuit) and unit-powered (transformer-supplied) types.
  • Compressor Rotation: On 3-phase units, proper compressor rotation is critical. The CADM will indicate reverse power phasing (Alert Code 7).
  • Advanced Scroll Temperature Protection (ASTP): This feature is mentioned as being on page 17, but the content for ASTP is not provided in the OCR.
  • Low Ambient Control: 569J*08H models include a 32LT Motormaster Low Ambient Control, which requires the addition of wind baffles for full range low ambient operation.
  • Start-Up Checklist: A comprehensive checklist is provided to ensure proper installation and initial operation, covering preliminary information, outdoor unit checks, controls, indoor unit checks, and piping.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Maintenance: Recommended every two months or two times per year.
  • Coil Cleaning: Periodic cleaning of Round-Tube Plate Fin Coils with Totaline® environmentally sound coil cleaner (P902-0301 or P902-0305) is essential. Harsh chemicals, high-pressure washers, or poor quality water should be avoided. The cleaning process involves removing surface fibers, wetting with low-velocity water, applying the cleaner solution (optimum 100°F/38°C), and thoroughly rinsing.
  • Filter Drier: The factory-provided filter drier is specifically designed for Puron® refrigerant. It should be replaced with a 100% molecular sieve grade XH-11 drier.
  • Field Refrigerant Access Ports: Equipped with Schrader check valves and service valves for pressure readings and charging.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes detailed troubleshooting tables for various issues, including:
    • Compressor not running (contactor open/closed).
    • Compressor stopping on high-pressure switch.
    • Compressor cycles on low-pressure switch.
    • Indoor/outdoor fan issues.
    • Compressor running but cooling insufficiently.
    • Unit operating too long or continuously.
    • Noisy system.
    • Compressor oil loss.
    • Expansion valve issues.
    • Frosted liquid line/drier.
    • CADM troubleshooting (Table 9) for module power, LED indications, and specific alert codes.
    • Speed Control Sensor Resistance table for diagnosing fan operation.
  • Compressor Protection: Includes a thermostat installed on the motor winding for overtemperature protection (IP) and the crankcase heater.
  • Oil: The unit is factory charged with Emkarate RL 32-3MAF oil. Oil should only be added if lost due to a system leak.
  • Safety Relief: If local codes require an additional safety relief device, it must be purchased and installed locally, requiring recovery of the factory shipping charge.
