Do you have a question about the BUSCH Zebra RH 0030 B and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Busch Zebra series comprises two-stage rotary vane vacuum pumps, specifically models RH 0030 B, RH 0040 B, RH 0060 B, and RH 0090 B. These machines operate on a two-stage rotary vane principle, where oil plays a crucial role in sealing gaps, lubricating the vanes, and dissipating compression heat. They are designed for the suction of air and other dry, non-aggressive, non-toxic, and non-explosive gases. The pumps are suitable for continuous operation and are capable of maintaining ultimate pressure.

Function Description:

The Zebra vacuum pumps are intended for applications where a non-potentially explosive environment is present. They can convey media that are subject to an increased thermal and/or mechanical load, provided this is done after consultation with Busch. The chemical compatibility of the process gases with the machine component materials is critical to prevent corrosion inside the compression chamber, which could lead to reduced performance and a shorter lifetime. Compatible materials include cast iron, steel, aluminum, and fluoroelastomer (FKM/FPM). If there are doubts about compatibility, it is recommended to contact Busch.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The machine should be installed in a location with sufficient cooling air and adequate space for maintenance. The ambient temperature must comply with the Technical Data. The cooling air inlets and outlets of the motor should not be covered or obstructed. The oil level indicator (OLI) must be easily visible, and the machine should be mounted horizontally. For installations above 1000 meters above sea level, the motor may be derated or the ambient temperature limited.
  • Connecting Lines/Pipes: Ensure proper connection sizes and flexible joints. The suction connection for RH 0030-0060 B is ISO-KF 40, and for RH 0090 B, it's ISO-KF 63. VG 40 and VG 50 adapters are available for specific models. A suitable filter (5 micron or less) should be installed upstream of the machine. The discharge connection is ISO-KF 40. The discharge line should slope away from the machine or include a liquid separator or drip leg to prevent liquids from flowing back.
  • Oil Mist Separator (Optional): An oil mist separator can be fitted at the discharge connection, requiring an ISO-KF adapter. It's recommended to monitor the internal pressure. An oil return line from the oil mist separator to the oil fill plug (OFP) is available for continuous operation.
  • Electrical Connection: Electrical installation must be performed by qualified personnel. The power supply must be compatible with the motor's nameplate data, and an overload protection according to EN 60204-1 must be provided. The motor should be protected from electric or electromagnetic disturbances.
  • Commissioning: The machine must be filled with oil before commissioning. Operation without oil will damage the machine. If equipped with a gas ballast valve, ensure it is closed before starting. During operation, the surface temperature of the machine may reach up to 70°C.
  • Continuous Operation: Working at a suction pressure higher than 65 hPa* in continuous operation can cause oil to gush out from the exhaust. For RH 0090 B, the suction pressure is limited to 10 hPa. If the machine is equipped with an oil mist separator and an oil return line, the operating time in continuous operation is limited below a suction pressure of 10 hPa for RH 0030-0060 B and 5 hPa for RH 0090 B. For higher suction pressures, the machine can be operated at ultimate pressure for at least 2 minutes once every few hours.
  • Conveying Condensable Vapours: Water vapour within the gas flow can be tolerated within certain limits. If condensable vapours are to be conveyed, the gas ballast valve (optional) must be open. For optimal performance, warm up the machine for approximately half an hour before and after processing.

Maintenance Features:

  • Maintenance Schedule:
    • Weekly: Check the oil level and the color of the oil.
    • Monthly: Check the machine for oil leaks, check the inlet screen, and clean if necessary. If an inlet filter is installed, check and replace it if necessary.
    • After the first 240 hours: Change the oil.
    • At least after 2000 hours: Change the filter cartridge.
    • Between 6 and 12 months: Change the oil (process-dependent), clean the machine from dust and dirt.
    • Yearly: Check the coupling, and conduct coupling maintenance.
    • Every 5 years: Have a major overhaul on the machine (contact Busch).
  • Oil Change Recommendations: The oil change interval depends on the application:
    • Vacuum system for study/laboratory, small vacuum: Within 6 months to 1 year.
    • Vacuum system for production/vacuum evaporation: Within 3 to 6 months.
    • Vacuum valve exhaust system/large vacuum evaporation system: Within 3 months.
    • Metallurgy vacuum system such as thermal treatment, melting: Within 1 month.
    • High vacuum dry/vacuum impregnation/vacuum forming/vacuum packing system: Within 1 month.
    • Low vacuum dry/pug mill/food packing system: Within 1 week.
  • Oil Change Procedure: The oil is drained from the oil drain valve (ODV) and refilled through the oil fill plug (OFP). The oil level indicator (OLI) should be checked to ensure the oil is between the MIN and MAX marks.
  • Coupling Maintenance: The coupling spider should be checked annually and changed if necessary. The machine needs to be disassembled to access the coupling.
  • Overhaul: Any dismantling beyond what is described in the manual should be done through Busch. If the machine has conveyed hazardous material, it must be decontaminated, and a 'Declaration of Contamination' must be provided.
  • Spare Parts: Only Busch genuine spare parts and consumables are recommended to ensure proper function and warranty. Various minor and major maintenance kits are available for each model.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting chart is provided to address common issues such as the machine not starting, not reaching suction pressure, fumes or oil droplets from discharge, or emulsified oil. Solutions include checking power supply, oil level, cleaning components, replacing filters, or contacting Busch for overhaul.
