Overview

The FinDreams FD-LV5.0 Battery Module is a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery storage system designed for residential use, operating with a photovoltaic system. It incorporates a self-contained control module and is compatible with various inverters for on-grid, backup, and off-grid modes.

Function Description

The battery module's primary function is to store electrical energy (charge) and provide power for loads (discharge). It features a Battery Management System (BMS) for integrated control and monitoring. The module can be connected to a PC for maintenance and firmware updates. It is designed for stationary indoor use and must be operated with a compatible inverter.

Usage Features

The FD-LV5.0 battery module offers flexible usage and scalability:

  • Scalability: One tower can consist of 1 to 4 battery modules, and up to 8 towers can be connected in parallel, allowing for a maximum system capacity of 160 kWh (32 modules).
  • Operation Modes: Supports on-grid, backup, and off-grid modes, providing versatility for various energy needs.
  • Commissioning: The system starts up by first activating the battery module(s) (pressing the power button for 1 second), followed by the inverter. Green LED light indicates normal operation.
  • Shutdown: The system can be shut down by pressing the power button for 2-3 seconds, with the inverter shutting down before the battery.
  • Data Cable Connection: Utilizes Cat5, Cat5e, or higher metal-shielded RJ45 cables for communication between the inverter and battery module, and between towers. Maximum cable length is 10m.
  • DC Connection: Requires two DC cables (16mm² cross-section) for connection. When multiple towers are connected, a junction box is needed to combine cables, ensuring equal cable lengths for positive and negative connections across all towers.
  • Grounding: A grounding wire (minimum 10 mm² copper wire) must be installed first and removed last during installation/decommissioning.
  • LED Signals: Provides clear visual indicators for various statuses:
    • Constantly Green: Idle (neither charging nor discharging).
    • Flashing Green Slowly: Charging.
    • Flashing Green Quickly: Discharging.
    • Flashing Green Quickly (0.2S interval): Firmware upgrading.
    • Constantly Red: Error (short-circuit, cell failure, BMS communication failure).
    • Flashing Red Quickly: Protection (low cell/battery voltage, overcurrent, temperature issues, high module voltage, short circuits).
    • Flashing Red Slowly: Warning (low cell voltage, discharge overcurrent, temperature issues, low capacity, high module voltage).
    • Flashing Orange Slowly: Battery attempts to shut down.
    • Flashing Orange Quickly: Battery communication timeout.

Maintenance Features

  • Storage: The battery module should be stored in an environment with a temperature range of -20°C to +50°C and humidity of 5-95%. For long-term storage, it should be charged to 20-30% SOC. Regular charging (0.5 C-rate) is recommended after prolonged storage, especially if the temperature is above 25°C (within seven days) or below 25°C (within fifteen days) to prevent damage from undervoltage.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Avoid impact, pulling, dragging, or stepping on the module.
    • Do not insert unrelated objects into the module.
    • Do not throw into fire, soak in water, or expose to strong oxidizers.
    • Avoid short-circuiting.
    • Do not store at temperatures ≥ 50°C, directly under the sun, or in high humidity.
    • Do not use cleaning solvents.
    • Do not open or damage the battery.
    • In case of electrolyte leakage, avoid contact and seek medical help if exposed (inhalation, eye/skin contact, ingestion).
    • Use ABC or carbon dioxide extinguishers for fire; water is not effective.
    • Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting.
    • Ensure proper surge protection for all connected devices and the inverter to prevent electric shock from overvoltages.
    • Transport and lift the module carefully, considering its weight, and wear suitable personal protective equipment.
    • Only open the battery module if humidity is within thresholds and the environment is free of sand and dust.
    • If the battery module does not start, contact BYD after-sales service within 48 hours to prevent permanent damage.
  • Disposal: Disposal must comply with local regulations for electronic waste and used batteries. Do not dispose with household waste. Avoid exposing batteries to high temperatures, direct sunlight, high humidity, or corrosive atmospheres. Contact BYD for more information.
  • Professional Maintenance: Maintenance should only be performed by qualified, trained technicians familiar with the manual and equipped with appropriate tools and safety gear. The equipment must be powered down before maintenance.
  • Warranty: Unauthorized alterations (disassembly, software modification, changes to usage scenario without consulting BYD, mixing with other battery brands/capacities) will void the warranty. Damages from improper operation, storage, transport, or non-compliance with environmental requirements are not covered.
