NOTE:
~ If the disc is deeply scratched, or too dirty,
playback may not begin and the «no» indica-
tion may be displayed on the TRACK/INDEX
counter for approximately 3 seconds.
— |f an improperly centered disc is played,
noise can be heard in the mechanism. The
use of such discs should be avoided.
TO STOP PLAYBACK PART WAY THROUGH
@ To unload the disc...
Press the OPEN/CLOSE button. The disc tray
will slide out.
@ To stop playback...
Press the STOP button. Playback will stop,
the PLAY indicator will go off, and the
TRACK/INDEX counter will display «1». The
pickup head will return to the beginning of
the first selection, and the player will be set
to the playback standby mode.

stop at the pickup’s current position. The
PLAY indicator will flash.
Press the PLAY/PAUSE button again to
resume playback from the pause position.
The PLAY indicator will light.
SELECTION SEARCH
Starting playback from the beginning of
a selection
The beginning of any selection can easily be
found using the F.F and F.B buttons. This oper-
ation is facilitated by the display on the TRACK/
INDEX counter.

Example: To skip ahead to the beginning of
selection 5 while selection 4 is playing...

The player will skip ahead to the next selection
each time the F.F button is pressed. Continu-
ously pressing the F.F button makes the player
skip ahead through the disc, selection by selec-
tion. Advance to the selection that you want to
hear. The pickup can be advanced to the last
selection in this way, but once the beginning of
the last selection is reached, it will not advance
any further when the F.F button is pressed.
Instead, playback of the last selection will begin.
e To skip back to the previous selection
Example: To skip back to the beginning of
selection 3 while selection 4 is playing...
Press the F.B button twice.
Playback of selection 3 begins.

The player will skip back one selection each
time the F.B button is pressed. If this button is
pressed in the middle of a selection, the player
will skip back to the beginning of that selection.
To make it skip back to the previous selection,
the button must be pressed twice.
Continuously pressing the F.B button makes the
player skip back through the disc, selection by
selection. Return to the selection that you want
to hear. The pickup can be returned to the first
selection in this way, but once the beginning of
the first selection is reached, it will not go back
any further when the F.B button is pressed.
Instead, playback of the first selection will
begin.
NOTE:
These buttons can be used to start
playback from a desired selection even
before playback begins (when the
player is in the playback standby mode).
In this case, the number of the desig-
nated selection will be displayed until
the PLAY/PAUSE button is pressed.
Selections can be designated even
when the disc tray is open. However, if a
selection number not present in the disc
is designated, playback will begin from
the beginning of the first selection.

Fast Forwarding and Fast Backing
Fast forwarding and fast backing can be done
when the player is in the play mode by using
the SEARCH/INDEX >> and <i<J buttons.
e During PLAY
When either the SEARCH/INDEX >> or <<
button is pressed, the sound is muted during
fast forwarding and fast backing (to about
1/4 normal volume) to allow easy determina-
tion of the position of the pickup on the disc.
e During PAUSE
The SEARCH/INDEX > and <<) buttons
will not operate.
@ During STOP
When either the SEARCH/INDEX PP or <<
button is pressed, you can designate the
index within a selection. The corresponding
index number display will flash on the
TRACK/INDEX counter.
NOTE:
— During playback of the last selection, if the
SEARCH/INDEX ff button is held down
until the pickup head is fast forwarded to the
end of the disc, the TRACK/INDEX counter
will display the real end time of the last
selection. When the button is released, the
TRACK/INDEX counter will display «1», and
the player will be in the stop mode.
~ During playback of the first selection, if the
SEARCH/INDEX <i<J button is held down
until the pickup head is fast backed to the
beginning of the first selection, the TRACK/
INDEX counter will display «O». When the
button is released, playback will begin from
the beginning of the first selection.
