Do you have a question about the CA.MI KIWI Plus and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The KIWI Plus is a new-generation mesh nebulizer designed for aerosol therapy. It combines the best features of compressor technology (rapid and effective nebulization of any type of drug) and ultrasonic technology (absolute silence and dual power supply, mains or battery), making it ideal for any type of use on adults and children, both in home-care and in emergency, while travelling or outdoors. This device is a Class II medical device.

Function Description

The KIWI Plus nebulizer operates by converting liquid medication into a fine mist for inhalation. It features an electronic power management system that allows it to function either connected to rechargeable internal batteries (original power supply) or by using a USB cable adapter. The electronic management system automatically recognizes the available power source. When connected to the mains, it prioritizes this source even if the internal batteries are charged, to prevent their depletion.

Usage Features

The device is pre-charged by the manufacturer, allowing immediate use. If the blue indicator light flashes quickly upon first activation, indicating a low battery, a full charging cycle is necessary. To use, open the drug chamber cover by releasing the safety lever. Insert the prescribed drug(s) according to your doctor's instructions and the drug manufacturer's guidelines. The drug chamber has a graduated scale indicating a maximum volume of 8 ml. Even if the chamber capacity allows up to 12 ml, it is recommended not to exceed 8 ml. Close the drug chamber cover, ensuring the safety clasp engages correctly. Connect the drug chamber to the main unit by sliding it along the specific tracks until a clear click is heard, indicating its proper positioning. Nebulization will not start if the drug chamber is not properly engaged. In this case, pressing the ON/OFF button will cause the electronic control to flash a blue button backlight for a few seconds, which will turn off if there is no good connection. If the chamber is properly engaged, pressing the ON/OFF button will cause the blue button operation light to flash slowly (cycle of 4 sec.) and remain on until the end of treatment and device shutdown. Connect the accessory indicated by your doctor for the specific therapy to the product. Ensure you use the correct size mask based on the patient (L for adults and S for children) to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness of the treatment. The device operates continuously for 20 minutes, after which it automatically shuts off. It does not automatically shut off when the medication runs out. Important: Do not insert or nebulize substances other than prescribed drugs or medical devices intended for aerosol nebulization. Do not use with medical devices and/or dense solutions containing pure hyaluronic acid or dissolved in high concentration, essential oils, fragrances, etc., or sediment loads (e.g., Pure Thermal Waters) that can block or permanently damage the device. Using pure hypertonic solutions (e.g., seawater) can block the device if not properly cleaned immediately after each use.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning After Each Use:

  1. Drug Chamber: After turning off the device, disconnect the power supply and store it in a dry and safe place. Release the drug chamber and remove it from the product.
  2. Main Unit: The main unit should be stored in a safe place (away from sinks or surfaces where it can come into contact with liquids or could fall), open the nebulization chamber and empty any residual drug.
  3. Accessories: Clean the accessories and drug chamber using water. Carefully rinse the Metal Mesh when using a medication having high surface activity or viscosity such as a medication solubilizing agent or expectorant because the medication is often left on the mesh.
  4. Soaking: Drug chamber, masks and connector, mouthpiece and nosepiece can also be soaked in a 1/1 solution of water and white vinegar for about 1 hour to cleanse these and/or to remove residues and deposits.
  5. Drying: Place the drug chamber and accessories on a clean and dry cloth and leave to dry completely in the open (about 2 hours) before storing or re-using them.
  6. Main Unit Cleaning: Use a soft and dry cloth to clean the main unit and the electrodes. Keep the electrodes clean and dry and always remove any residual medication from the device.
  7. Reassembly: Once dry, reassemble the drug chamber to the main door and place them in the box or travel bag, together with the accessories. Keep it all in a clean environment and protected against the weather.

Self-Cleaning Mode:

  1. Step 1: Put a small amount of clean water in the Medicine Cup.
  2. Step 2: Turn on the Unit by pressing the Power Button, then hold on the Power Button and don't release for more than 5 seconds, the indicator of Power will be lighted all the time indicating Self-cleaning mode entered.
  3. Step 3: After 30 seconds, the Unit will stop working.
  4. Step 4: Discard the remaining water, and dry the Unit thoroughly. Important: Carry out the self-cleaning procedure after every single use.

Disinfection: Before proceeding with disinfection and sterilization, always follow the cleaning procedure described in the previous paragraph.

  • Drug Chamber, Masks and Their Connector, Mouthpiece and Nosepiece: Can be disinfected using denatured alcohol or hypochlorite-based solutions, easily available in pharmacies. Before reusing these accessories, rinse them with warm water until all traces of disinfectant have been removed, dry and store in a dry and non-dusty environment.
  • Mouthpiece and Nosepiece: Can be disinfected by boiling in water for about 10 minutes or using hot steam sterilizing devices (commonly used to disinfect accessories and components for children and infants). Once boiled/disinfected, leave to cool and dry in the open. Important: Do not use a microwave oven to sterilize the device or accessories.

Battery Maintenance:

  • The internal battery must be fully charged at least once a year.
  • Always recharge the battery within 1 month from the automatic shut-off due to low battery. If the battery is left completely discharged for more than a month, it may be damaged partially or totally.
  • The battery can be charged for a maximum of 300 times until fully reaching its functional specifications. When maintaining and using correctly, subsequent recharges of the battery are possible but in function of its general integrity conditions, they may provide less autonomy of use. Once the battery is out, the device can only operate with the power supply.
  • For a longer durability and to best exploit battery performance, it is recommended not to carry out partial charges and to recharge the internal battery only when it is discharged (rapid flashing of the front blue LED and/or automatic switch-off for low battery).
