3 CATEGORY A ALARMS
Customers can address Category A Alarms. To ensure the highest rates of uptime, CALIENT
products are designed to allow customers to replace the components listed in section 3.1
without adversely affecting the warranty or the integrity of warrantied chassis seals.
3.1 Replacement Part Types
There are four (4) types of field-replaceable parts for the S320 OCS:
Power Modules
Fan Modules
Fan Filters
Fiber Management Assembly
Breaking chassis shields can void or limit the product warranty. Replacing power
modules, fan modules, fan filters and the fiber management assembly does not
require the breaking of chassis seals. If field service personnel think it will be necessary
to break a seal to complete a repair, they should contact CALIENT technical support
before breaking or removing the chassis seal.
3.2 Part Failure Notification
Typically, Category A alarm notification indicates failure of a plug-in unit. This can be readily
corrected by replacement of the unit by the customer.
3.3 Corrective Action
For Category A alarms, customers should replace the failed part with an on-hand spare part or
request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) from CALIENT Technical Support. Table 1 lists
the external alarm interfaces for the S320 OCS.
