Other possible causes include a deteriorated or worn rotor and pump case, excessive liquid viscosity, excessive suction head, or a suction pipe that is too long. If the liquid's viscosity is too high, the pump is unsuitable. Try closing the feeder gate partially or reducing the level difference if the suction head is excessive. For long suction pipes, move the pump closer to the suction tank or use a wider pipe.

The foot valve could be blocked, or the suction pipe might not be fully immersed in liquid; clean or replace the bottom valve and ensure the suction pipe is suitable. Another cause may be a blocked suction filter; clean or replace it. Verify that the integrated non-return valve is working properly.

Ensure the pump casing and suction pipe are full of liquid and air has been expelled. A slight initial drip during filling or start-up may occur as the seal adjusts; wait to see if it stops. Also, the mechanical seal may be unsuitable for the application. Install a suction filter and use a seal suited to the characteristics of the liquid being pumped.
