Thecompressorshouldberun
continuouslyforonehourtoallow
properseatingofthepistonrings.
1. Opendrainvalvecompletelyand
runthecompressorfor60minutes
(SeeFigure6).
2. Turnoffthecompressorandclose
drainvalve.Thecompressorisnow
readyforuse.
Ifthecompressorisrununderhumid
conditionsforshortperiodsoftime,the
humiditywillcondenseinthecrankcase
andcausetheoiltolookcreamy.Oil
contaminatedbycondensedwaterwill
notprovideadequatelubricationand
mustbechangedimmediately.Using
contaminatedoilwilldamagebearings,
pistons,cylindersandringsandisnot
coveredunderwarranty.Toavoidwater
condensationintheoil,periodically
runthecompressorwithtankpressure
near150psifortwo-stagecompressors
or120psiforsinglestagecompressors
byopeningthedrainvalveoranair
valveconnectedtothetankorhose.
Runthepumpforanhouratatimeat
leastonceaweekormoreoftenifthe
condensationreoccurs.
IMPORTANT:Changeoilafterfirst50
hoursofoperation.

NOTE:Thiscompressorhasamaximum
operatingpressureof175PSIfor
two-stagecompressorsor135PSI
forsinglestagecompressors.Donot
alterpressuresettingsoncontrol
componentsabovethislimit.
Thecompressorunitstartsandstops
basedonpresetpressureswitch
settings.Thepressureswitchcontains
anunloaderwhichisasmallvalvethat
ventsairtoallowthemotortostart
easily(SeeFigure7).
CONTINUOUSRUNOPERATION
Toconverttocontinuousrunoperation
aseparateunloadingdevicemustbe
installedbytheuserbetweenthepump
andthetank.Theexistingcheckvalve
mustberemoved.
CRANKCASEBREATHER
Duringsevereoperatingconditionsor
initialstart-up,someoilmayaccumulate
atthecrankcasebreatheropening.This
isnormalandwilldiminishasthepump
accumulatesruntimeandthepiston
ringsbecomefullyseated.

Disconnect,tagandlock
outpowersourcethen
releaseallpressurefrom
thesystembeforeattemptingto
install,service,relocateorperform
anymaintenance.
Inordertomaintainefficientoperation
ofthecompressorsystem,checkthe
airfilterandoillevelbeforeeachuse.
TheASMEsafetyvalveshouldalso
becheckeddaily(SeeFigure8).Pull
ringonsafetyvalveandallowthe
ringtosnapbacktonormalposition.
Thisvalveautomaticallyreleasesairif
thetankpressureexceedsthepreset
maximum.Ifairleaksaftertheringhas
beenreleased,orthevalveisstuckand
cannotbeactuatedbythering,the
ASMEsafetyvalvemustbereplaced.
Donotattemptto
tamperwiththe
ASMEsafetyvalve.
TANK
Never
attempttorepairor
modifyatank!Welding,
drillingoranyother
modificationwill
weakenthetankresultingin
damagefromruptureorexplosion.
Alwaysreplaceworn,crackedor
damagedtanks.
Drainliquidfrom
tankdaily.
Thetankshouldbecarefullyinspected
ataminimumofonceayear.Look
forcracksformingnearthewelds.If
acrackisdetected,removepressure
fromtankimmediatelyandreplace.
COMPRESSORLUBRICATION
SeeOperation.Addoilasrequired.
Theoilshouldbechangedeverythree
monthsorafterevery500hoursof
operation;whichevercomesfirst.Only
pressurelubricatedpumpshaveanoil
filter.

MOISTUREINCOMPRESSEDAIR
Moistureincompressedairwillform
intodropletsasitcomesfromanair
compressorpump.Whenhumidity
ishighorwhenacompressorisin
continuoususeforanextendedperiod
oftime,thismoisturewillcollectin
thetank.Whenusingapaintspray
orsandblastgun,thiswaterwillbe
carriedfromthetankthroughthe
hose,andoutofthegunasdroplets
mixedwiththespraymaterial.
IMPORTANT:Thiscondensation
willcausewaterspotsinapaintjob,
especiallywhensprayingotherthan
waterbasedpaints.Ifsandblasting,it
willcausethesandtocakeandclog
thegun,renderingitineffective.A
filterintheairline,locatedasnearto
thegunaspossible,willhelpeliminate
thismoisture.
