Questions and Answers

Overview

The Caple WC6100 is a built-in wine cabinet designed for the storage and preservation of wine. This appliance is intended for household and similar applications, including staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, other residential environments, and bed and breakfast type environments. It is specifically designed for wine storage and is not suitable for storing food.

Function Description:

The primary function of the WC6100 is to provide a stable and controlled environment for wine storage, ensuring optimal conditions for preservation and readiness for consumption. It features a cooling system that maintains a consistent internal temperature, adjustable between 5°C and 18°C. The appliance utilizes an "Auto-cycle" defrost system, where the refrigerated surface automatically defrosts when the cooling cycle is off. The defrosted water is channeled into a drain pan at the back of the cabinet, where it evaporates.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control: The wine cabinet allows users to set the desired cooling temperature using touch control keys. The temperature can be adjusted in 1°C increments within a range of 5°C to 18°C. Once set, the display flashes for 5 seconds to confirm the new temperature.
  • Temperature Display: The display can show temperatures in either Celsius or Fahrenheit, with the option to switch between the two by pressing and holding specific keys simultaneously.
  • Internal Light: The cabinet includes an internal light that can be switched on and off manually using a dedicated light button when the door is shut. The light also automatically turns on when the door is opened and turns off when the door is shut.
  • Shelving System: The WC6100 is equipped with telescopic rail shelves, designed for easy access to bottles. Shelves can be pulled out approximately 1/3 of the way for inserting or removing bottles, with a built-in stop to prevent them from falling out. Shelves can also be removed completely for cleaning or to accommodate larger bottles by aligning holes on the shelf with lugs inside the cabinet.
  • Storage Capacity: The cabinet can store a maximum of 30 Bordeaux-style 750ml bottles. The actual capacity may be less if storing other bottle styles, such as champagne, and some shelves may need to be removed to accommodate them.
  • Power On/Off: The appliance can be switched on or off by pressing and holding the power button for approximately 5 seconds.
  • Temperature Memory Function: In the event of a power interruption, the wine cabinet remembers the previous temperature setting. When power is restored, the cabinet will revert to the last set temperature.
  • Door Operation: To prevent damage, the door should be fully open when pulling shelves out. The door should be closed carefully to avoid slamming, which can cause excess stress on the appliance and lead to the door bouncing open, potentially resulting in moisture build-up and overflow from the evaporation tray.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning is recommended. Before cleaning, the appliance should be turned off and unplugged, and all items, including shelves and racks, should be removed.
    • Interior: Inside surfaces should be washed with a warm water and baking soda solution (approximately 2 tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of water).
    • Shelves: Shelves should be washed with a mild detergent solution.
    • Controls and Electrical Parts: When cleaning areas near controls or electrical parts, ensure excess water is wrung out of the sponge or cloth.
    • Exterior: The outside cabinet should be cleaned with warm water and mild liquid detergent, then rinsed well and wiped dry with a clean soft cloth.
  • Power Failure Management: During short power failures (a few hours), the temperature of the appliance should not be significantly affected if the door is opened minimally. For longer power outages, steps should be taken to protect the contents.
  • Holiday Care:
    • Short Vacations (less than three weeks): The wine cabinet can be left operating.
    • Long Vacations (several months): All items should be removed, the appliance turned off, and the interior cleaned and dried thoroughly. To prevent odors and mold, the door should be left slightly ajar, blocked open if necessary.
  • Moving the Appliance: When moving the wine cabinet, all items should be removed, and loose items (shelves) should be securely taped down. The door should also be taped shut. The appliance should be kept in an upright position during transportation and protected with a blanket or similar item.
  • Ventilation: Proper ventilation is crucial for the appliance's performance. The ventilated cross-section in the plinth must be at least 200cm², and the back panel of the carcass where the appliance is installed should be removed. If a decorative grill is used, its total opening area must not be less than 200cm².
  • Light Replacement: The internal light must be replaced by qualified personnel. Instructions for replacement can be obtained from Caple Service or their website.

Safety Precautions:

  • The appliance should be positioned so that the plug is accessible, and the electric cord should be released before moving the cabinet to its final location.
  • The wine cabinet should not be moved while loaded with wine to avoid distorting the body.
  • It should be installed in a suitable place to avoid touching the compressor.
  • After unpacking, the appliance should be checked for perfect order; if there are any doubts, it should not be used, and the retailer should be contacted.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a Caple service agent or a similarly qualified person to avoid hazards.
  • Ventilation openings in the appliance enclosure or built-in structure must be kept clear of obstructions.
  • The appliance uses flammable refrigerant (R600a), so flammable and explosive articles should not be placed in or near the cabinet.
  • Children aged 8 years and above, and persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, can use the appliance if supervised or instructed safely and understand the hazards. Children should not play with the appliance or hang, pull, or sit on the door.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance should not be performed by children without supervision.
  • The supply cord should not be trapped or damaged when positioning the appliance.
  • To ensure stability, the appliance must be fixed into position according to installation instructions.

  • Plug adapters should not be used.
  • Wine bottles or other loads should not be placed on the door when it is open to prevent accidents or damage.

  • The appliance should not be overloaded.
  • The door should not be opened unnecessarily.
  • Shelves should not be covered with aluminum foil or other materials that prevent air circulation.
  • Electrical appliances not recommended by the manufacturer should not be used inside the storage compartments.
  • The cooling pipework should not be damaged during transportation.
  • The wine cooler should be located away from direct sunlight and heat sources (ovens, hobs, heaters, radiators).
  • The unit should not be located in moist areas.
  • The appliance is fitted with a power cord having an earth wire terminating in a 13amp plug.
  • The wine cabinet should be plugged into an exclusive, properly installed-grounded wall outlet. The third (ground) pin should not be cut or removed from the plug. Any grounding questions should be directed to a certified electrician or Caple service. Incorrect earthing can result in electric shock.
