Overview

The 40MHH High Wall Ductless System is an air conditioning unit designed for residential or light commercial use, available in sizes from 09 to 24. It provides quiet, maximum comfort through various operating modes, including cooling, heating (for heat pump models), dehumidification, and fan-only operation. The system filters and dehumidifies the air, contributing to improved indoor air quality.

Function Description:

The 40MHH system operates with five primary modes:

  • FAN Only: In this mode, the unit circulates and filters room air without altering its temperature.
  • AUTO: The system automatically adjusts between cooling or heating based on the user-selected set point. This mode is generally recommended for single-zone applications. In multi-zone setups, using AUTO changover might cause an indoor unit to enter STANDBY mode until all units are in the same mode (COOLING or HEATING), with heating being the priority.
  • HEATING (Heat Pump Only): This mode heats and filters the room air. The performance of the HEAT function may be affected by low outdoor temperatures, and supplemental heating might be recommended in such cases.
  • COOLING: In this mode, the system cools, dries, and filters the room air.
  • DEHUMIDIFICATION (DRY): This mode prioritizes air dehumidification, slightly cooling the room temperature while filtering the air. It is not intended to replace a dedicated dehumidifier.

The unit can be controlled via a wireless remote control, which features a display panel showing the current system status. An optional wired remote control and a 24V interface for third-party thermostats are also available.

Usage Features:

The remote control offers a comprehensive set of functions for operating the 40MHH system:

  • ON/OFF: Turns the unit on or off.
  • TEMP ▲/▼: Adjusts the set temperature in 1°F (1°C) increments. The maximum temperature is 86°F (30°C), and the minimum is 62°F (17°C).
  • MODE: Cycles through operating modes: AUTO → COOL → DRY → HEAT → FAN (for heat pump models) or COOL → DRY → FAN (for cooling-only models).
  • SET/OK: Used to scroll through and confirm advanced functions like Fresh, Follow Me, and AP mode.
  • SLEEP: Saves energy during sleeping hours by adjusting temperature settings for comfort. This function is not available in FAN or DRY mode.
  • TIMER: Allows users to set a timer for the unit to turn on or off. The timer can be set in 30-minute increments up to 10 hours, and then in 1-hour increments up to 24 hours.
  • SHORTCUT: Restores the current settings or resumes previous settings. Holding the button for more than 2 seconds automatically restores current operation settings, including mode, temperature, fan speed, and sleep feature.
  • CLEAN: Initiates a self-cleaning function to remove moisture and prevent bacteria growth on the heat exchanger. This function is only available in COOL or DRY mode.
  • FAN SPEED: Selects fan speeds in the order of AUTO → LOW → MED → HIGH. Holding this button for 2 seconds activates the Silence feature.
  • SWING: Starts and stops the horizontal louver movement. Holding for 2 seconds initiates vertical louver auto swing.
  • TURBO: Enables the unit to reach the preset temperature in the shortest possible time. In COOL mode, it blows cool air with the strongest wind. In HEAT mode (for units with electric heat elements), it activates the electric heater for quick heating.
  • LED: Turns the indoor unit's LED display and buzzer on or off, creating a comfortable and quiet environment. Pressing LED for more than 5 seconds displays the actual room temperature, and pressing it again reverts to the setting temperature display.
  • LOCK Function: Activated by pressing CLEAN and TURBO simultaneously for more than 5 seconds. All buttons become unresponsive until these two buttons are pressed again for 2 seconds to disable locking.
  • SILENCE Function: Activated/disabled by pressing FAN for more than 2 seconds. This function reduces compressor frequency, which may impact cooling/heating capacity. It can be canceled by pressing ON/OFF, Mode, Sleep, Turbo, or Clean.
  • FP Function (Freeze Protection - Heat Pump Only): Activated by pressing the TEMP ▼ button twice within one second in HEAT mode, with a setting temperature of 62°F/17°C or 20°C. The unit operates at a high fan speed, and the temperature is automatically set to 46°C/8°F. This function is canceled by pressing On/Off, Sleep, Mode, Fan, and Temperature.
  • FRESH Function (some units): Energizes the Ionizer/Plasma Dust Collector to remove pollen and impurities from the air.
  • FOLLOW ME Function: Enables the remote control to measure the temperature at its current location and send this signal to the air conditioner every 3 minutes. This optimizes temperature control, especially in AUTO, COOL, or HEAT modes. The Memory feature for Follow Me can be started/stopped by holding Turbo for seven seconds.
  • AP Mode (some units): Used for wireless network configuration. For some units, it's accessed by continuously pressing the LED button seven times in 10 seconds.

Indoor Unit Display Indicator:

The indoor unit's display provides visual feedback:

  • "ON" (for 3 seconds): Indicates TIMER ON, SWING, TURBO, or SILENCE features are active.
  • "OFF" (for 3 seconds): Indicates TIMER OFF, SWING, TURBO, or SILENCE features are off.
  • "CF": Anti-cold air feature is on (Heat Pump units).
  • "DF": Defrosting is active (Heat Pump units).
  • "SC": Unit is self-cleaning.
  • "FP": Freeze protection is on. The display shows the set point temperature, or room temperature in FAN mode.

Energy Saving Recommendations:

  • Set a comfortable thermostat setting and avoid frequent adjustments.
  • Keep air filters clean; frequent cleaning may be necessary in dusty environments.
  • Use drapes, curtains, or shades to block direct sunlight on hot days.
  • Limit run time using the TIMER function.
  • Do not obstruct air intake on the front panel.
  • Turn on the unit before the room becomes too uncomfortable.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal operation and longevity of the 40MHH system.

Periodic Maintenance Schedule:

  • Every Month (Indoor Unit):
    • Clean Air Filter (more frequently in dusty zones).
    • Replace Carbon Filter.
    • Change Remote Control Batteries.
  • Every Month (Outdoor Unit):
    • Clean Outdoor Coil from Outside.
  • Every 6 Months (Outdoor Unit):
    • Clean Outdoor Coil from Inside†.
    • Blow Air Over Electric Parts†.

    • Clean Fan Wheel†.
    • Check Fan Tightening†.
    • Clean Drain Pans†.
    • († Maintenance to be carried out by qualified service personnel. Refer to the Installation Manual.)

Cleaning Procedures:

  • Cleaning the Coil: Clean the coil at the beginning of each cooling season or as needed. Use a vacuum cleaner or a long-bristle brush, taking care to avoid damaging the sharp coil fins. Always wear safety protection.
  • Cleaning the Air Filters: Remove and clean the air filters once a month. Clogged filters can reduce cooling efficiency and impact health.
    1. Locate the air filter under the top air inlet grill.
    2. Grip the tab, lift it, and pull it out.
    3. If present, un-clip the small air freshening filter from the larger filter and clean it with a hand-held vacuum.
    4. Clean the large air filter with warm, soapy water and a mild detergent.
    5. Rinse with fresh water and shake off excess water.
    6. Dry in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
    7. Re-clip the air freshening filter (if applicable) and slide the filter back into the indoor unit. Note: If filters show signs of excessive wear or tearing, they must be replaced. Contact your local dealer for replacements.
  • Cleaning the Indoor Unit Front Panel: Wipe the outside of the front panel with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use water hotter than 105°F (40.6°C) or pour water onto the fan coil. Avoid abrasive or petroleum-based cleaners as they may damage the panel.

Preparing for Extended Shutdown Period:

If the unit will not be used for an extended period:

  1. Clean the filters and reposition them.
  2. Operate the unit in FAN ONLY mode for 12 hours to dry all internal parts.
  3. Turn off the main power supply.
