26. FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM WITH COOLANT
It is very important that you do not just fill the radiator and reservoir with coolant and begin to ride the
unit. The cooling system MUST have all the air bled from it or the system will not cool the engine.
a. Remove the radiator filler cap and by-pass hose from the by-pass valve.

c. With the engine running at idle fill the radiator with coolant. Fill the radiator until coolant
comes out of the by-pass valve. When ONLY coolant comes out of the by-pass valve and
there are no air bubbles in the coolant, reconnect the by-pass hose.
d. Continue to fill the radiator until the coolant level reaches the top of the radiator neck
where the cap goes. After several minutes of idling the coolant level will drop. Refill the
radiator to the same level and monitor for several more minutes for air bubbles. If the
coolant level drops again, refill. Once the coolant level is stable and you no longer see air
bubbles, screw the radiator cap back on and fill the reservoir to the appropriate level.
