Basicinstructions
BATTERY
Beforecommencinganyworkonthevehicle,alwaysdisconnectandisolatethenegativeleadfromthebattery,unless
otherwiseindicatedforaspecicoperation(forexample:anoperationtobecarriedoutwiththeenginerunning),on
completionofwhichthenegativeleadshouldbedisconnectedbeforeproceedingwiththework.
SHIMMING
Ateachadjustment,selecttheshimsmeasuringthemoneatatimewithamicrometerandsummingthevalues
obtained:donotmeasurethecompletepackofshimsalltogetherorrelyonthenominalvaluesindicatedonthe
shimsasthesecouldproduceincorrectmeasurements.
ROTATINGSHAFTSEALS
Forcorrectrotatingshaftsealinstallation,proceedasfollows:
•
beforeassembly,allowthesealtosoakintheoilitwillbesealingforatleastthirtyminutes;
•
thoroughlycleantheshaftandcheckthattheworkingsurfaceontheshaftisnotdamaged;
•
positionthesealinglipfacingtheuid;withhydrodynamiclips,takeintoconsiderationtheshaftrotationdirection
andpositionthegroovessothattheywilldeviatetheuidtowardstheinnersideoftheseal;
•
coatthesealinglipwithathinlayeroflubricant(useoilratherthangrease)andllthegapbetweenthesealinglip
andthedustlipondoublelipsealswithgrease;
•
insertthesealinitsseatandpressdownusingaatpunch;donottapthesealwithahammerormallet;
•
whilstinsertingtheseal,checkthatitisperpendiculartotheseat;oncesettled,makesurethatitmakescontact
withthethrustelement,ifrequired;
•
topreventdamagingtheseallipontheshaft,positionaprotectiveguardduringinstallationoperations.
O--RINGSEALS
LubricatetheO--RINGsealsbeforeinsertingthemintheseats,thiswillpreventthemfromoverturningandtwisting,
whichwouldjeopardisesealingefciency.

ApplyoneofthefollowingsealingcompoundsonthematingsurfacesmarkedwithanX:RTV1473,RHODORSIL®
CAF1orLOCTITEPLASTICGASKET.
Beforeapplyingthesealingcompound,preparethesurfacesasfollows:
•
removeanyincrustationsusingawirebrush;
•
thoroughlyde--greasethesurfacesusingoneofthefollowingcleaningagents:trichlorethylene,petrolorawater
andsodasolution.
BEARINGS
Wheninstallingbearingsitisadvisedto:
•
heatthebearingsto80÷90°Cbeforettingontheshafts;
•
allowthebearingstocoolbeforeinstallingthem.
SPRINGPINS
Whenttingsplitsocketelasticpins,ensurethatthepinnotchispositionedinthedirectionoftheforcerequiredto
stressthepin.
Spiralspringpinsdonotrequirespecialpositioning.
