Camshafttiming
Thedoubleidlergearlocationisxed.Theuppersingle
idlergearlocationcanbeadjustedandisusedtosetthe
backlashbetweentheidlergearandthecamshaftgear.
Thisbacklashhastobecheckedandsetsincethisis
anoverheadcamshaftengine.Allforthegeartrainis
mountedtotheblockexceptthecamshaftgearwhichis
mountedtothecylinderhead.Setthebacklashbefore
therockerarmassemblyisinstalled.
Useadialindicatortomeasurethecamshaftgeartoidler
backlash.Onlymeasurethebacklashbetweentheupper
idlergearandthecamshaftgear.Installthedialindicator
tangentialtoacamshaftgeartooth.Holdtheidlersothat
itdoesnotmoveandrockthecamshaftgear.
Correctbacklashis0.080–0.180mm(0.003–0.007in).

RotatetheywheelclockwiseuntiltheDholeappearsin
thebottomviewhole.Installadialindicator(1)onthe
number3exhaustvalverockerarmcamshaftroller(2)as
shown.
Preloadthedialindicator6.00mm(0.24in).
Rotatetheengineclockwiseuntilthedialindicatorstops
moving:liftuponthevalveendoftherockerarmtotake
anyclearanceorplayoutandtoverifythatyouareonthe
innerbasecircleofthecamshaft,thelowestpoint.
