This document is an operation guide for a Casio watch, model 5690, which features Mobile Link connectivity.
The Casio 5690 watch offers a range of functions, including timekeeping, world time, alarm, stopwatch, and timer. Its primary feature is Mobile Link connectivity, allowing it to connect and communicate with a Bluetooth-capable phone. This connection enables automatic time adjustment, configuration of various watch settings via a phone app, and other enhanced features.
Timekeeping: The watch displays the current time, including hours, minutes, seconds, day, and day of the week. It supports both 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping formats. Automatic time adjustment is a key feature, where the watch connects with a phone at preset times (e.g., 12:30 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 6:30 p.m.) to adjust its time settings. This adjustment is automatically terminated after completion. Users can also trigger immediate time adjustment by connecting the watch to a phone. If the watch cannot connect to a phone, time and date settings can be manually adjusted using watch operations. This includes setting the Home City, summer time, and the current time/date. The watch also allows switching between 12-hour and 24-hour timekeeping formats. For situations where radio signals are restricted, such as in medical facilities or aircraft, the auto time adjustment can be disabled.
World Time: The watch can display the current time in any one of 38 time zones around the globe, as well as UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). With Mobile Link, users can configure World Time city settings using the CASIO WATCHES phone app, selecting from approximately 300 cities. The app also allows configuring settings for user-defined cities not built into the watch. Summer time switching for the World Time City can also be configured. Users can check the World Time directly on the watch and swap their Home Time with the World Time, a useful feature when moving to another time zone.
Alarm: The watch can be set to sound an alarm at a specified time. Up to five different alarms can be configured. The hourly time signal causes the watch to beep every hour on the hour. Alarm settings can be configured using the CASIO WATCHES phone app or directly on the watch. The hourly time signal can also be enabled or disabled. Alarms and the hourly time signal can be turned off manually.
Stopwatch: The stopwatch measures elapsed time in 1/100-second units for the first hour, and in 1-second units thereafter, for up to 24 hours. It supports measuring elapsed time, split times, and timing first and second place finishers.
Timer: The timer counts down from a user-specified start time, with a beeper sounding when the countdown reaches zero. The countdown start time can be set in 1-second units up to 24 hours. Timer settings can be configured using the CASIO WATCHES phone app or directly on the watch.
Hand Alignment Adjustment: Strong magnetism or impact can cause the analog hands to become misaligned with the digital display. This can be corrected using the CASIO WATCHES phone app or by performing manual adjustments directly on the watch.
Other Settings: The watch allows specifying the day of the week language (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian) and enabling or disabling the button operation tone. Watch settings can also be reset to their initial factory defaults.
General Guide: The watch features an hour hand, minute hand, and a mode hand that indicates the current mode (Timekeeping, World Time, Alarm, Timer, Stopwatch). An LCD displays digital information. Buttons A, B, C, and D are used for navigation and setting adjustments. Button A cycles through displays in Timekeeping Mode. Button B turns on illumination. Button C cycles between watch modes and returns to Timekeeping Mode when held down. Button D changes settings on display.
Navigating Between Modes: Pressing button C cycles through the watch modes. Holding down C for at least one second returns the watch to Timekeeping Mode.
Cycling Between Timekeeping Mode Digital Display Contents: In Timekeeping Mode, pressing button A cycles between displaying the day of the week/date and hours/minutes. This display content varies slightly depending on whether the watch is paired with a phone.
Shifting Hands to Read the Digital Display: To make the digital display easier to read, users can shift the analog hands out of the way by holding down B and pressing C. The hands will return to normal timekeeping positions after about one hour of inactivity or by pressing B and C again.
Viewing the Face in the Dark: The watch is equipped with an LED light that illuminates the face and digital display when button B is pressed. The illumination duration can be set to 1.5 or 3 seconds. Frequent use of illumination can reduce battery life.
Linking with a Phone:
Disconnecting from Your Phone: Pressing any button on the watch terminates a Bluetooth connection.
Unpairing: To unpair the watch from a phone, users must delete pairing information from both the CASIO WATCHES phone app and the watch. On the watch, this involves entering Timekeeping Mode, holding down A, pressing C twice, holding down B until [CLR] is displayed, and then pressing A.
Water Resistance: The watch's water resistance is indicated by markings (WATER RESIST, WATER RESISTANT, 5BAR, 10BAR, 20BAR) on the back cover. Users are advised not to operate the crown or buttons while the watch is submerged or wet. Avoid wearing the watch in baths, heated swimming pools, saunas, or high-temperature/humidity environments. After submersion in seawater, rinse the watch with plain water. Gaskets should be replaced periodically (every two to three years) to maintain water resistance. Battery replacement should be performed by an authorized CASIO service center, which will also check water resistance. Leather bands on water-resistant watches should avoid direct exposure to water.
Temperature: Avoid leaving the watch in extreme temperatures (very high or very low) as this can cause timekeeping errors, malfunction, or LCD display issues.
Impact: The watch is designed to withstand normal daily impacts. However, strong impacts can lead to malfunction.
Magnetism: Analog and combination watches use magnetic force for hand movement. Strong magnetic fields from devices like speakers or cell phones can affect timekeeping accuracy. Very strong magnetism from medical equipment should be avoided as it can damage electronic components.
Electrostatic Charge: Strong electrostatic charges can cause incorrect time display or damage electronic components.
Chemicals: Avoid contact with thinners, gasoline, solvents, oils, fats, cleaners, adhesives, paints, medicines, or cosmetics containing such ingredients, as they can cause discoloration or damage to resin, leather, and other parts.
Storage: For long-term storage, thoroughly wipe the watch clean of dirt, sweat, and moisture, and store it in a cool, dry place.
Resin Components: Avoid prolonged contact with other items while wet to prevent color transfer. Exposure to direct sunlight or accumulated dirt can cause discoloration. Friction can also cause discoloration of painted components or printed areas on the band. Fluorescent colors may fade if the watch remains wet for long periods. Semi-transparent resin parts can discolor due to sweat, dirt, and high temperatures/humidity. Daily use and long-term storage can lead to deterioration of resin components.
Leather Band: Avoid prolonged contact with other items while wet to prevent color transfer. Exposure to direct sunlight or accumulated dirt can cause discoloration. Rubbing or dirt can also cause color transfer and discoloration.
Metal Components: Failure to clean dirt from metal components can lead to rust, even on stainless steel or plated parts. Rust can cause sharp areas or band pin issues. Clean metal components with a soft toothbrush and a weak solution of water and mild neutral detergent, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
Band Maintenance: Do not tighten the band too tightly to prevent skin irritation. Ensure enough room for a finger between the band and wrist. Regularly clean the band. Stop using the band immediately if any abnormalities (loss of flexibility, cracks, discoloration, looseness, pin issues) are noticed and seek inspection/repair from an authorized CASIO service center.
Battery Replacement: Battery replacement should be performed by an original retailer or authorized CASIO service center using specified battery types. A water resistance check should also be performed during battery replacement. Initial batteries are for factory testing and may have a shorter life; replacement will be charged. Low battery power is indicated by large timekeeping error, dim display, or a blank display, and batteries should be replaced promptly.
User Maintenance: Regularly wipe the watch with a soft cloth to keep it free of dirt, sweat, water, and foreign matter. Rinse with clean fresh water after exposure to seawater or mud. For metal or resin bands with metal parts, use a soft toothbrush with a weak solution of water and mild neutral detergent, or soapy water, then rinse and dry. For resin bands, wash with water and wipe dry; smudges may appear but will not affect skin or clothing. Clean leather bands by wiping with a soft cloth. Periodically rotate the crown and rotary bezel, and press buttons to maintain proper operation.
