Do you have a question about the Cateye VOLT400XC and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CatEye VOLT400XC HL-EL070RC is a compact and versatile bicycle light designed to enhance visibility and safety during rides. This light unit is equipped with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and offers multiple lighting modes to suit various riding conditions and preferences.

Function Description

The primary function of the VOLT400XC is to provide illumination for cyclists, making them more visible to others and lighting their path in low-light conditions. It features a powerful LED that can emit up to 400 lumens, ensuring a bright and clear view. The light unit incorporates a mode memory function, which means it will turn on in the last lighting mode used, providing convenience for regular users.

The device offers several lighting modes:

  • High (400 lm): Provides maximum brightness for situations requiring extensive illumination, such as night riding on unlit roads.
  • Low (100 lm): A more conservative brightness setting, suitable for urban environments or when less intense light is needed, helping to conserve battery life.
  • HyperConstant (400/100 lm): This mode combines a steady light with a flashing pattern. It's designed to offer both constant illumination and enhanced visibility through its flashing component, making the cyclist more noticeable to oncoming traffic.
  • Flashing (100 lm): A dedicated flashing mode, ideal for daytime visibility or when you want to maximize your presence without needing constant illumination. This mode significantly extends battery life.

The VOLT400XC also includes an indicator light that signals the remaining battery power. When the switch (indicator) lights up, it signifies that the remaining battery power is 20% or less, prompting the user to charge the device soon.

Usage Features

The VOLT400XC is designed for ease of use and adaptability.

Mounting:

The light unit is securely attached to the bicycle using a rubber band and hook system, compatible with handlebars ranging from Ø22 mm to Ø32 mm. It's crucial to ensure the light is firmly mounted before each ride to prevent it from dislodging. The light unit itself can rotate 360 degrees, allowing cyclists to adjust the angle of illumination precisely to their needs. This flexibility ensures optimal light direction regardless of handlebar shape or riding posture.

Operation:

The device is operated via a single switch.

  • Turning On/Off: A long press of the switch will turn the light on or off.
  • Changing Modes: Once the light is on, a single click of the switch cycles through the different lighting modes (High, Low, HyperConstant, Flashing).
  • Mode Memory: The light remembers the last used mode, so it will automatically start in that mode when turned on again.

Charging:

The VOLT400XC is equipped with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Charging is facilitated via a USB cable, which connects to a charge jack cover on the device. It can be charged using a PC or a USB battery charger. The standard charging time is approximately 7 hours. An indicator light on the device shows the charging status:

  • Charging: The indicator light illuminates steadily.
  • Charging Completed: The indicator light turns off, signaling that the battery is fully charged. It is recommended to use a 500+mA (USB2.0) USB battery charger for optimal charging. Users should always charge the product before its first use and whenever the low battery indicator appears.

Water Resistance:

This product is designed to be water-resistant under normal daily use, meaning it can be used in the rain without issue. However, it should not be intentionally submerged in water.

Precautions for Use:

  • Before each trip, ensure the light is firmly mounted, lights up, and its beam is not blocked by baggage.
  • Keep the light out of children's reach.
  • It's advisable to carry a spare light in case of unexpected battery shutoff.
  • Mounting the light unit too close to a wireless computer may interfere with its readings.
  • Avoid placing the light inside a vehicle or near a heater, as high temperatures can accelerate battery deterioration.
  • If the light unit or parts become dirty, clean them with a soft cloth moistened with mild soap. Do not use paint thinner, benzine, or alcohol, as this can cause damage.
