Overview

The CDA CST61 Extractor is a kitchen appliance designed for the removal of cooking fumes and odors. It can be operated in two modes: extraction (venting air outside) or recirculation (filtering air and returning it to the room). The extractor is intended for installation above a hob and requires careful consideration of clearance distances to ensure safe and effective operation.

Function Description:

The primary function of the CST61 Extractor is to maintain air quality in the kitchen by removing grease, smoke, and odors generated during cooking. It achieves this through a motor-driven fan that draws air through a grease filter and, if in recirculation mode, a charcoal filter. The control panel features a neon indicator, a light button, an off button, and three speed level buttons, allowing users to adjust the fan speed and control the integrated lighting. For optimal performance, it is recommended to switch on the extractor 15 minutes before cooking and leave it running for approximately 15 minutes after cooking is complete. The light is designed for use during cooking and not for general room illumination.

Usage Features:

The extractor offers straightforward operation through its control panel.

  • Light Control: Press button "B" to switch the extractor light on or off.
  • Speed Control: Press the relevant "D" button (1, 2, or 3) to select the desired fan speed. The neon indicator "A" illuminates to confirm the extractor is running.
  • Power Off: Press button "C" to switch the extractor off.
  • Operating Modes: The extractor can be configured for either "extraction" (venting outside) or "recirculation" (filtering and returning air). This setting is determined by an internal lever "L" (Fig. 5) which must be set to position "A" for extraction or "F" for recirculation during installation. In recirculation mode, an outlet cover must be fitted, and a charcoal filter is required.
  • Motor Protection: The extractor is equipped with a motor protection device that will switch off the motor if it overheats, for example, during prolonged use of multiple hob zones or if installed below the recommended height. The motor will resume operation once it has cooled sufficiently.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the extractor's performance and safety.

  • Safety Precaution: Always switch off the electricity supply before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
  • Cleaning: Use a non-abrasive cleaner (e.g., a dilute solution of water and mild detergent) and a clean microfibre cloth to clean the exterior surfaces. Abrasive cleaners can scratch the surface and erase control panel markings.
  • Grease Filter Cleaning: The grease filter should be cleaned at least once a month to minimize fire risk. It can be washed with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher (placed upright to prevent damage). To remove, slide the retaining clips, remove the wire filter clip, and lift out the filter (Fig. 2, "G"). Replace in reverse order. Discoloration after dishwasher cleaning is normal and not a fault.
  • Charcoal Filter Replacement (Recirculation Mode Only): The charcoal filter (CDA part number: CHA36) should be replaced every four to six months, depending on use, to ensure optimal performance. To fit, remove any old filter and insert the new one until it clicks into place (Fig. 6).
  • Light Bulb Replacement: Ensure power to the extractor is off and allow the bulb to cool before attempting replacement. Open the base of the extractor, unscrew the old bulb, and replace it with a new SES halogen screw fitting (E14), 240V max 5.5W LED. Wearing gloves is recommended to prevent premature bulb failure. Bulb replacement is not covered by the guarantee. Only use the recommended bulb type and power rating. Spare bulbs are available from CDA Customer Care or local DIY shops.

Installation Notes:

Installation should be carried out by specialized personnel. The extractor can be mounted either to the underside of a bridging cabinet or directly to a wall. For cabinet mounting, remove the grease filter cover, screw the hood to the cabinet using appropriate wood screws (not supplied), and then replace the cover. For wall mounting, remove the grease filter and cover, drill four holes as indicated in Fig. 4 ("B" and "Z"), insert wall fixings, tighten screws "B" (leaving 3mm proud), hang the extractor, insert screws "Z" to secure, and finally replace the grease filter cover. The size of the holes for wall fixings depends on the specific fixings used. Electrical connection must be performed by a competent electrician using fixed wiring via a double pole switched fuse spur outlet, protected by a 3A fuse. The wiring colors are Green & Yellow (Earth), Blue (Neutral), and Brown (Live).
