Overview

The CDA ECH Chimney Extractor is a kitchen appliance designed to remove smoke, steam, and cooking odors from the air, ensuring a cleaner and more pleasant cooking environment. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for its installation, use, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The ECH Chimney Extractor operates by drawing air from above the cooking surface, filtering out grease and odors, and then either expelling the air outside (ducted extraction) or recirculating it back into the room after purification (recirculation mode). For optimal performance, it is recommended to switch on the extractor 15 minutes before cooking and leave it running for approximately 15 minutes after cooking is complete. This helps to effectively capture cooking byproducts. The extractor is equipped with a motor protection device that will automatically switch off the motor to prevent overheating, especially during intensive cooking or if installed incorrectly.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Mains Electrical Voltage: 230 – 240Vac
  • Total Rated Power Consumption: 146W
  • Light Bulbs: Designed for 3W maximum LED 2 pin GU10 bulbs.
  • Fuse Protection: Requires a 3A fuse. The appliance is a Class II (double insulated) appliance and is not intended to be earthed.
  • Minimum Installation Distance (Electric Hob): Must exceed 600mm (650mm recommended).
  • Minimum Installation Distance (Gas Hob): Must exceed 700mm (750mm recommended). If the gas hob instructions specify a greater distance, that distance must be observed.
  • Ducting Recommendation: For best performance and lowest noise output, 150mm ducting is recommended. 125mm or 100mm ducting can be used but will reduce performance and increase noise.
  • Room Volume: Designed for use in a room with a volume of less than 36m³.
  • Energy Efficiency Information (Model ECHxx):
    • Annual Energy Consumption (AEC_Hood): 68.0 kWh
    • Time Increase Factor (f): 1.7
    • Fluid Dynamic Efficiency (FDE_Hood): 9.3 (E)
    • Energy Efficiency Index (EEI_Hood): 90.7 (D)
    • Measured Airflow at Best Efficiency Point (Q_BEP): 227.7 m³/h
    • Measured Pressure at Best Efficiency Point (P_BEP): 150.0 Pa
    • Maximum Airflow (Q_MAX): 427.4 m³/h
    • Measured Electric Power at Best Efficiency Point (W_BEP): 102.5 W
    • Nominal Lighting Power (WL): 6.0 W
    • Average Illumination of the Lighting System on the Cooking Surface (E_Middle): 315 Lux
    • Measured Power Consumption in Standby (P_S): NA W
    • Measured Power Consumption Off Mode (P_O): 0.0 W
    • Sound Power Level (L_WA): 64.0 dBA
    • Grease Filter Efficiency (GFE_Hood): 80.5 (C) %
    • Lamp Efficiency (LE_Hood): 52.5 lux/W

Usage Features:

The control panel features a power indicator light, a light button, a power off button, and speed level buttons.

  • Switching Light On/Off: Press button “B”.
  • Switching Extractor On/Changing Speed: Press the relevant button “D” for the first, second, or third speed level as required.
  • Switching Extractor Off: Press button “C”.
  • Installation Requirements: The extractor must be housed in rooms with adequate ventilation. The width of any hob installed below it must not be greater than the width of the extractor. It must be possible to isolate the extractor from the mains electrical supply after installation.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the extractor's performance and longevity.

  • Cleaning: Use a non-abrasive cleaner, such as a dilute solution of water and mild detergent, and dry with a clean cloth. Abrasive cleaners can scratch the surface and erase control panel markings.
  • Grease Filter Cleaning: The grease filter should be cleaned at least once a month to minimize fire risk. It can be washed with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher (placed upright to prevent damage). To remove, push the button on the handle and pull down the front of the filter, then pull it out completely. Discoloration of the grease filter after dishwasher cleaning is normal and not a fault.
  • Charcoal Filter Replacement (Recirculation Only): For best performance, charcoal filters should be replaced every four to six months, depending on use. To attach a new filter, first remove the grease filter, then offer the charcoal filter to the side of the motor and turn it clockwise until it locks into place. Carbon filters are optional accessories for recirculation and help remove odors.
  • Light Bulb Replacement: Allow the bulb to cool before changing. Remove the grease filter, unscrew the old bulb, replace it with a 3W maximum LED 2 pin GU10 bulb, and then replace the grease filter. Bulb replacement is not covered by the guarantee. Only use recommended bulbs; higher power ratings are not advised. Spare bulbs are available from CDA Customer Care or local DIY shops.
  • Ducting and Ventilation: Wherever possible, use rigid circular pipe with a smooth interior instead of expanding concertina-type ducting. The recommended maximum lengths of ducting with minimal performance effect are: 4 metres with 1 x 90° bend, 3 metres with 2 x 90° bends, or 2 metres with 3 x 90° bends. Ducting components and kits are optional and must be ordered separately. Ducting should be secured and sealed to the vent outlet using appropriate jubilee clips or other securing means.

Important Safety Notes:

  • Do not connect the extractor to any gas ventilation system, flue system, or hot air ducting system.
  • Do not vent the extractor into an attic or loft space.
  • Do not tile the extractor in; it must be removable for service or maintenance.
  • Do not use silicone sealant to secure the hood to the wall.
  • Steam cleaners must not be used on this appliance.
  • Do not perform maintenance or cleaning without first switching off the electricity supply.
  • Only use the screws provided with the extractor to mount the ducting adaptor; longer screws can damage internal wiring and invalidate the guarantee.
  • Do not mount the isolation switch behind the chimney section.
  • If the mains cable is damaged, it must be replaced by a CDA approved engineer or similarly qualified person.
  • Under no circumstances should any external covers be removed for servicing or maintenance except by suitably qualified personnel.
  • This appliance is not designed to be used by people (including children) with reduced physical, sensorial, or mental capacity, or lack of experience/knowledge, unless supervised or instructed by a responsible person.
  • The CDA Group Ltd is not responsible for injuries or losses due to incorrect use or installation. Incorrect installation, misuse, or commercial use will invalidate the guarantee.
