4.9 Prinng opmizaon
The EMD Printhead uses an electromagnecally actuated valve to form droplets in the micro- and nanoliter range.
Pressurized uid can ow when the valve is open, and the ow stops when it is closed. An opmal nozzle diameter,
valve travel speed and actuaon yield the minimal dispensing volume. The BIO X allows the user to enter the open me
and the cycle me.
Due to the technique used to form the droplets, this printhead might be incompable with highly viscous materials.
However, adding heat to thermosensive materials can lower the viscosity enough to make them compable. Larger
nozzle diameters and valve travel are recommended when using larger ow volumes and high-viscosity uids, while
smaller diameters with smaller valve travel are recommended when using small dispensing volumes and low-viscosity
uids.
