Overview

This document describes a gas barbecue/grill, specifically the PATIO BISTRO® 240 Outdoor Barbecue, designed for outdoor use only. It is a portable appliance that uses gas cylinders as fuel.

Function Description:

The device is a gas barbecue/grill for outdoor cooking. It features a burner assembly, cooking grates, a heat tent, and a warming rack. The ignitor system allows for easy lighting of the burner. The appliance is designed to be used with a gas regulator and approved hose, ensuring safe operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

The nominal heat input for the grill is 3.81 kW (277.36 g/h). It is compatible with different gas categories and pressures depending on the region:

  • I3+(28-30/37): Uses Butane (28-30 mbar) or Propane (37 mbar) or their mixtures. The grill injector size is 0.99 x 1 pcs. This category is for BE, CH, CY, CZ, ES, FR, GB, GR, IE, IT, LT, LU, LV, PT, SI, SK.
  • I3B/P(30): Uses Butane/Propane mixtures (28-30 mbar). The grill injector size is 0.99 x 1 pcs. This category is for BG, CY, CZ, DK, EE, FI, HR, IS, HU, IT, LT, LU, LV, MT, NL, NO, RO, SE, SI, SK, TR.
  • I3B/P(50): Uses Butane/Propane mixtures (50 mbar). The grill injector size is 0.86 x 1 pcs. This category is for AT, CH, DE, LU, SK. The maximum cylinder diameter is 320 mm and height is 600 mm. The appliance uses a 1.5 VDC battery for the ignitor.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: The barbecue is strictly for outdoor use and must never be used indoors or in enclosed spaces like carports, garages, porches, or under overhead structures.
  • Gas Cylinder Placement: Gas cylinders must be placed on the ground next to the appliance, not on the bottom shelf.
  • Ignitor Lighting: To light the burner, turn the gas burner control valve to the "Ignition" position, turn on the gas cylinder, open the lid, press and turn the control knob to the "Ignition" position, then press and hold the ELECTRONIC IGNITOR button until the burner lights. If ignition doesn't occur within 5 seconds, the procedure should be repeated after a 5-minute wait.
  • Match-Lighting: If the ignitor fails, a lit match can be inserted into the match light hole at the rear of the appliance bottom to manually light the burner.
  • Safety Precautions: Always check the regulator for tightness before opening the gas cylinder valve. Turn off all control knobs and gas when not in use. Use long-handled barbecue utensils and protective gloves when handling hot components. The grease cup must be inserted and emptied after each use, only when the appliance has completely cooled. Exercise caution when opening the lid due to hot steam and when children, the elderly, or pets are nearby. In case of a gas leak or grease dripping onto the valve, hose, or regulator, turn off the gas supply immediately and perform a leak test after correcting the issue. Keep ventilation openings clear. Do not store objects that block combustion airflow. Do not disconnect or change the gas container within 3m of an open flame.
  • Spider Alert: Spiders or small insects can obstruct gas flow by building nests in the venturi tubes and burners, potentially causing "flashback" problems. Regular inspection and cleaning of the venturi tubes and burners are recommended, especially after extended periods of disuse.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Cleaning: The appliance should be cleaned frequently, preferably after each cookout, and at least once a year. If a bristle brush is used for cooking surfaces, ensure no loose bristles remain. Do not clean cooking surfaces while the appliance is hot.
  • Burner Assembly Cleaning: The burner assembly should be cleaned if there are ignition problems. This involves removing the grease tray, cooking grates, heat tent, and warming rack to access the burner. Blocked ports can be cleared with a stiff wire. The burner tube can be cleaned using a stiff wire with a hook, a narrow bottle brush, or by forcing air through it with an air hose (wearing eye protection). Inspect the burner for damage and replace if necessary. Ensure the burner tube re-engages over the valve opening correctly.
  • Plastic Parts: Wash with warm soapy water and wipe dry. Avoid abrasive cleaners, degreasers, or concentrated appliance cleaners.
  • Porcelain Surfaces: Clean with a baking soda/water solution or specialized cleaner. Use non-abrasive scouring powder for stubborn stains.
  • Painted Surfaces: Wash with mild detergent or non-abrasive cleaner and warm soapy water.
  • Stainless Steel Surfaces: Wash with mild detergent and warm soapy water. Baked-on grease may require an abrasive plastic cleaning pad, used in the direction of the brushed finish.
  • Storage: Clean cooking grates and store in a dry location. If the gas cylinder is connected, store outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children. Cover the appliance if stored outdoors. Store indoors ONLY if the gas cylinder is turned off, disconnected, and removed from the appliance. Check for burner obstructions when retrieving from storage.
  • Leak Testing: Perform a leak test before first use, at least once a year, and every time the cylinder is changed or disconnected. This involves applying a soapy solution to hose connections and checking for bubbles. If bubbles appear, turn off the gas and tighten connections. Do not attempt to repair leaks if they cannot be stopped.
  • Hose and Regulator Requirements: Use only approved hoses certified to appropriate EN standards, not exceeding 1.5m in length (1.2m for Finland). Check hoses for cuts or wear before each use and ensure they do not touch warm surfaces. Replace damaged hoses as required. Use only the gas regulator supplied with the barbecue or one certified according to EN12864 or EN16129.
