Seats and Restraints
. . . 142
CAUTION
It is dangerous to operate the
vehicle with damaged safety
belts or other parts.
Replace a damaged safety belt
immediately.
CAUTION
A crash can damage the
restraint systems in your
vehicle. A damaged restraint
system may not properly
protect the person using it,
resulting in serious injury or
even death in a crash.
Have the restraint systems
inspected after a collision.
Make any necessary
replacements as soon as
possible.
NOTICE
If safety belt replacement is
necessary, it is recommended
that the entire safety belt
assembly be replaced.
Lap/Shoulder Belt
The front seats and the rear
outboard seats of the vehicle are
equipped with lap/shoulder belts.
Note:
The center rear seating position
may have a safety belt that can
be detached. In order for the
safety belt to work, the belt
must be properly attached.
See "Removable Rear Center
Lap/Shoulder Belt" later in this
section for more information.
The lap/shoulder belt should be
worn properly, as described
below.

To fasten the belt:
1. Adjust the seat and sit up
straight.
2. Pick up the latch plate.
3. Pull the belt across you. Do
not let it get twisted.
The belt may lock as it is pulled
out. If it does, let it go all the
way back in and start again.
4. Push the latch plate into the
buckle until it clicks.
Be sure to insert the correct
latch plate into the appropri-
ate buckle.
Make sure the release button
on the buckle faces upward or
outward.
5. Pull up on the latch plate to
make sure it is secure.
To unlatch the belt:
• Push the button on the buckle.
The belt will retract
automatically. Guide the
safety belt as it retracts to
prevent the latch plate from
damaging interior surfaces or
injuring occupants.
