4. START: Starts the engine.
When the engine starts,
release the key. The ignition
switch will return to ON.
Do not turn the key to START
after the engine is already
running.
CAUTION
Do not turn the key to LOCK
while driving. The driver could
lose control of the vehicle and
brake power assistance would
be cancelled, causing vehicle
damage, personal injury or
even death.
CAUTION
Do not reach for the key
through the steering wheel.
The steering wheel could
suddenly turn causing the
driver to lose control of the
vehicle and injure fingers,
hands or arms.

NOTICE
Your engine is designed to work
with the electronics in your
vehicle. If you add electrical
parts or accessories, you
could change the way the
engine operates. See your
dealer before adding electrical
equipment.
Any resulting damage would
not be covered by your
warranty.

this section for important safety
information.

Engine Starting
NOTICE
Holding your key in the Start
position for longer than
15 seconds at a time can
damage your starter motor.
Wait about 10 seconds
between each try to help avoid
damaging your starter.
NOTICE
Do not idle the engine at
high speed for more than
five minutes to avoid damaging
the exhaust system.
1. Make sure the parking brake is
applied before starting the
engine.
2. Vehicles with Automatic
Transmissions:
- The transmission must be in
P (Park).
CAUTION
Although the engine can be
started when the selector
lever is in N (Neutral), use it
only when normal starting is
impossible.
