These sections explain how to install the switch. See the Cisco IE 4000 Switch Hardware Installation
Guide for more information.
Note For instructions on how to install the switch in a hazardous environment, see the “Installation” chapter
of the Cisco IE 4000 Switch Hardware Installation Guide on Cisco.com.
Equipment That You Supply
• For the protective ground connector, obtain a single or pair of stud size 6 ring terminals (such as
Hollingsworth part number R3456B or equivalent)
• 10-gauge copper ground wire
• For power connections, use UL- and CSA-rated style 1007 or 1569 twisted-pair copper appliance
wiring material (AWM) wire
• Wire-stripping tools for stripping 10- and 18-gauge wires
Before You Begin
For installation in hazardous locations, make sure that the temperature surrounding the unit does not
exceed 158°F (70°C).
Note When the switch is installed in an industrial enclosure, the temperature within the enclosure is greater
than normal room temperature outside the enclosure.
Installation Warning and Caution Statements
Warning
Exposure to some chemicals could degrade the sealing properties of materials used in the sealed
relay device.

Warning
This unit is intended for installation in restricted access areas. A restricted access area can be
accessed only through the use of a special tool, lock and key, or other means of security.

Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to install, replace, or service
this equipment.

In switch installations in a hazardous location, the DC power source could be located away from
the vicinity of the switch. Before performing any of the following procedures, locate the DC
circuit to ensure that the power is removed and cannot be turned on accidentally, or verify that
the area is nonhazardous before proceeding.
