If the log jams
• Stop thelog splitter.
• Once thepressure plate (3) has returned to its starting
position: place awooden wedge under theend of thelog
nearest thepressureplate.
• Start thelog splitter and force thewedge under thelog using
thepressureplate.
• Repeat theprocedure with alarger wedge if necessary.
Note: Nevertry to dislodge alog which is under pressure, it could
split and fly off with great force and damage thelog splitter or
cause aninjury.
4. Maintenance
4.1 Changing the hydraulic oil
Thehydraulic oil should be changed at regular intervals (about every 150 hours) as follows:
1. Makesure that thepressure plate (3) is in its starting position before pulling out theplug.
2. Remove thedrain bolt (8).
3. Tiltthelog splitter with thewedge end down over acontainer capable of holding at least 4 litres of oil and
wait until theoil has drainedout.
4. Tiltthelog splitter theother way, so that themotor end is down and pour in about 3.5 litres of good quality
new hydraulicoil.
5. Wipethedipstick, dip it into thetank with thelog splitter in thevertical position, pull it out and readit. Theoil
level should be between thetwo grooves on thedipstick.
6. Cleanthedrain bolt and screw it back intight.
7. Recheck theoil level regularly and top up theoil if necessary.
4.2 Sharpening the wedge
Thesplitting wedge should be kept sharp by filing it regularly with afine-toothedfile.
4.3 Other maintenance
• Always unplug themachine before carrying out any adjustments or maintenance.
• Ensure that themains lead, plug and on/off switch are all in good condition and undamaged.
• Clean all theparts of thelog splitter with abrush and dryrags.
• Store themachine in adry, clean, non-corrosive environment and out of children’sreach. Makesure that
thetemperature of storage area does not fall to below −25 °C.
• Make sure that all thenuts and bolts are tightened, especially thenuts on thepull rods (by thehandle).
